Assistant Director of Christian Formation – Discipleship

Job Overview

As a member of the Student Life staff, the Assistant Director of Christian Formation serves the college by providing focused leadership over existing Christian formation programs. Responsibilities include assisting the Director of Christian Formation, designing chapel breakouts, and discipling students.

This position requires an individual to demonstrate a mature and continually growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, demonstrated spiritual leadership aptitude and experience, superior judgment, a passion for the collegiate learning environment, the ability to complete projects with minimal supervision, and the understanding of the current formational needs of students.

Job Description

What You Will Do:

Christian Formation

  • Assist the Director of Christian Formation in the cultivation of a chapel program that elevates the spiritual formation of students and faculty/staff.
  • Assist the Director of Christian Formation in overseeing worship teams and scheduling chapel speakers.
  • Assist the Director of Christian Formation in facilitating ongoing assessments and focus groups to gain valuable insight on spiritual transformation.
  • Design and execute a predetermined number of chapel breakouts every semester.
  • Shepherd discipleship group student leaders including leader training, care, and support.
  • Cultivate preexisting and new discipleship initiatives including retreats and trainings.
  • Mobilize students through and in Christian Formation, both domestic and abroad.
  • Implement strategies that increase student involvement.
  • Speak in engagements on and off campus when necessary.
  • Manage an assigned budget.
  • Participate in collaborative meetings, outings, and devotionals for the Christian Formation team.
  • Serve in the Summer Institute.
  • Attend student extracurriculars activities (athletics, performing arts, etc.).
  • Perform related administrative tasks.

Recruitment and Partnerships

  • Research, build, and develop new partnerships and generate interest in the local and greater community through relationship-building and off-campus speaking/worship-leading events.
  • Nurture preexisting partnerships and generate interest in the local and greater community through relationship-building and off-campus speaking/worship-leading events.
  • Develop student leadership teams that participate in recruitment opportunities.
  • Generate related marketing strategies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Student Leaders/Interns

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Relevant Field OR in-progress.
  • Biblical and Theological depth.
  • Experience with curriculum development, pastoral care, teaching, and small group facilitation.
    • Experience with Planning Center Online, ProPresenter, loops and tracks.
  • Membership with a local church.
  • A pastoral reference.
  • Three years of relevant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three plus years of experience in vocational ministry.
