The Assistant Head of Lower School furthers the mission of Sheridan Hills Christian School by assisting the Head of Lower School in the daily operation of the Lower School. The Assistant Head of Lower School will bring expertise and focus to the teaching and learning environment, student discipline, and professional development.

Personal Qualifications:

  • A born-again believer with a testimony of salvation by receiving Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord.
  • An active member in good standing of a Bible-believing church.
  • Public and private life that demonstrates biblical qualities of a Christian role model, at home, work, and in the community.
  • Practice principles of Christian growth including prayer, study, witnessing, and discipleship.
  • Have the physical and mental characteristics needed to perform the job description and duties.

Professional Qualifications:

  • The Assistant Head of Lower School must possess BA in Education and relevant teaching experience with a Master’s degree preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Model Christian behavior and serve as an educational, organizational, and spiritual leader to Lower School faculty and staff.
  • Works closely with the Head of Lower School (grades K5-6th) in the daily duties of caring for the Lower School community modeling a love of Christian, classical education.
  • Steps into the Head of Lower School role should it become necessary.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Lower School under the guidance of the Head of Lower School during the school year and summer camp.
  • Assist the Head of Lower School in the oversight of faculty, parent engagement, curriculum, and academic offerings.
  • Oversee the monitoring and management of student grades and report cards, including weekly review grades, creating student support strategies, and assist in managing the report card process.
  • Assist the Head of Lower School in the planning and coordination of field trips and special events, such as chapels, reading week, fundraisers, and others as needed.
  • Assist with MAP testing scheduling, proctoring, and reporting.
  • Provide guidance and training to all faculty and staff. Assist the Head of Lower School in observing teachers and providing feedback for growth.
  • Manage student before-school care, ensuring sufficient staff coverage, safety, and care.
  • Communicate regularly with the Head of Lower School regarding faculty, parent issues, and student safety.
  • Perform teacher duties if necessary.
  • Assist the Head of Lower School in the planning and implementation of the Lower School master schedule.
  • Attend and participate in administration and faculty meetings, school events, and when requested, in parent-teacher conferences.
  • Assist in planning for and equipping indoor and outdoor areas to reflect a Christian environment in the Lower School (admins office, cafeteria, playground, bulletin boards).
  • Maintain positive relationships with students, teachers, parents, and the SHBC community.
  • Understand, follow, and implement school policies according to the purpose and mission of Sheridan Hills Christian School.
  • Ensure timely communication between the Lower School administration all other departments regarding enrollment, academic camp, and admissions procedures.
  • Assist the Head of Lower School in the planning and coordination of all aspects of the academic camp programs.
  • Represent the Lower School in congregational activities when necessary.
  • Collaborate with SHBC staff during church events, as needed.
  • Maintain positive relationships and ongoing communications with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Admissions department during the enrollment process of students and participate in Open Houses and other events as necessary.
  • Conduct tours and family interviews and provide prospective families with accurate information about the Lower School in a professional manner, following Admissions policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Head of Lower School in the planning of training and professional development of Lower School faculty.
  • Understand and follow the monthly schedule and all procedures for lockdown, emergency, and evacuation drills.
  • Stay informed of the school’s legal responsibilities and liabilities.
  • Make regular safety checks of space and equipment and report if necessary.
  • Read, review, and verify weekly lesson plans to ensure proper implementation of the Classical Christian curriculum.
  • Assist teachers with curriculum implementation as it conforms to the classical Christian philosophy of the school.
  • Stay updated on research and trends in the field of classical Christian education.
  • Maintain professional attire befitting a Christian school.
  • Inform the Head of Lower School as soon as possible when absent
