Assistant Pastor

Job Overview

  • Work with the elders of the Branch and the Senior Pastor to help lead the church in obedience and faithfulness to Christ
  • Oversee the ministry areas of the church in collaboration with the staff and ministry leaders
  • Help lead the church through occasionally preaching the Word of God
  • Lead a Growth Group and help source and/or write study material

In addition to these general and strategic leadership roles, the candidate will focus on the two following aims:

  • Encouraging a community of people who magnify God in everything (with particular focus on the Sunday gathering)
  • Oversee the work of welcoming and integrating people into the life of the church.

The successful candidate will have the following skills, qualifications and experience:

  • Gifted in leading large groups of people
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Sound time-management skills
  • Preferably has completed a three year degree in theology, or equivalent
  • Experience in pastoral ministry or other forms of Christian ministry
  • Experience in overseeing, managing and mentoring other ministry staff
  • Working with Children registration or equivalent

Job Description

Responsibilities of the Assistant Pastor include:

  • Work as part of The Branch ministry team under the supervision of the Session and in consultation with the Senior Pastor as an Assistant Pastor
  • Participate, together with the Senior Pastor, the Session and Ministry leaders, in leading The Branch.
  • Preach 6-8 times a year at Branch services (and at other sister churches on occasion)
  • Participate in Branch services in service leading, Bible reading, prayer, etc.
  • Lead a Growth Group
  • Oversee and develop the pastoral care within the church
  • Oversee the work of mercy ministry at The Branch
  • Oversee the work of welcoming and integrating people into the life of the church
  • Organise baptisms/dedications, public testimonies (live, video, written) etc.
  • Work with elders, deacons and the hospitality team.
  • Promote the worship of God within the church
  • Oversee the regular weekly corporate gatherings, including co-ordinating ministry spots, baptisms and dedications, public testimonies, Lords Supper etc.
  • Oversee and develop services, in conjunction with team leaders, the Service Leader and Music Teams.
  • Oversee and develop the other Sunday ministry areas (AV, Morning Tea, Greeters etc.)
  • Drive the recruitment of Sunday volunteers (ensure areas are adequately staffed)
