The Associate Pastor will join the pastoral staff team at Floyds Knobs Baptist Church (FKBC), currently consisting of the Lead Pastor only. The Associate Pastor will expand and develop the ministry of FKBC by both assisting the Lead Pastor in overall ministry to the congregation and providing oversight to specific ministries within the congregation. The Associate Pastor will fill the vital role in the life of the church of being both the secondary preacher (five to ten times a year) and filling the responsibilities of the Lead Pastor in case of his travel, sickness, or other unavailability. The Associate Pastor will also assist the Lead Pastor in fulfilling the regular ministries of the Church, including, but not limited to, interpersonal pastoral ministry (visitation, discipleship, and counseling), administration, and various teaching responsibilities. Additionally, the Associate Pastor will provide significant and, at times, sole leadership and initiative in outreach and family ministries. The Associate Pastor must have a vision for supporting, assisting, and following the ministry of the Lead Pastor but also independently leading in his areas of responsibility. The Associate Pastor must be able, and even eager, to take direction, but he must also be able to take initiative to protect the time of the Lead Pastor. In the context of FKBC, full-time pastoral staff will be expected to be generalists, so the Associate Pastor must be able to flourish in the tension of executing specific responsibilities while also meeting the general needs of the church, whatever they may be. In a way, the combined job descriptions of the Lead Pastor and Associate Pastor will be meeting the diverse shepherding needs of the congregation. As a staff member, the Associate Pastor reports to the Lead Pastor. As an elder, however, the Associate Pastor will be an equal participant in the primary leadership body of the congregation and must be fully qualified to bear that responsibility.
