Associate Pastor for Families and Connections

I. PREAMBLEThe Associate Pastor for Families and Connections of Central Baptist Church (the Church) shall be a man who meets the scriptural qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7. He shall be acquainted with and experienced in service within a Southern Baptist church and preferably a graduate of a Southern Baptist seminary. He must have a divine call to ministry, wholeheartedly affirm the Bible as the inerrant Word of God, and fully support the beliefs set forth in the Baptist Faith and Message and the Articles of Faith outlined in the Church's Constitution and Bylaws. He shall work in unity with the members and leadership of this Church, under the Church's authority, to pursue the goals of God's Kingdom with a Christ-like spirit.

II. POSITION SUMMARYThe Associate Pastor for Families and Connections (Associate Pastor) provides leadership and oversight for the Church's discipleship ministries, guest assimilation, and member engagement. He is primarily responsible for the strength, vitality and growth of the Church's Sunday School / Life Groups and other discipleship ministries. He will lead initiatives that help guests and members move toward deeper spiritual maturity and involvement in the life of the Church. This role includes overseeing pathways for membership, serving, and small group integration. The Associate Pastor will also assist the Lead Pastor in the preaching and teaching of God's Word when called upon.

III. WORKING RELATIONSHIPSThe Associate Pastor reports directly to the Lead Pastor and is accountable for the content and scheduling of his responsibilities. He will work with other ministerial and church staff members, and appropriate lay leadership to maintain an atmosphere of teamwork and trust in the planning and implementation of church ministries.

IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESA. Family DiscipleshipDevelop and lead a comprehensive discipleship strategy that moves people from new believer to spiritually mature followers of Christ.Oversee the Starting Point class (new member orientation) and Central Equip (Wednesday night discipleship), ensuring alignment with the Church's mission to make, mature, and multiply disciples.Provide vision and leadership for marriage and parenting ministries, men's and women's Bible studies, and other life-stage spiritual formation initiatives.Equip church members to practice spiritual disciplines, live missionally, and disciple others.B. Connections & Member EngagementDesign and lead the assimilation pathway for guests, guiding them from first-time visit to meaningful membership and service.Provide pastoral oversight to volunteer and hospitality teams that welcome and connect newcomers.Facilitate a clear process for members to discover and engage in ministry through spiritual gifts and service.Build and maintain systems for tracking member engagement, follow-up, and spiritual development.C. Sunday School / Life GroupsExercise general oversight of all Sunday School / Life Groups, ensuring health, structure, and mission alignment.Provide direct leadership to the young adult and adult divisions: training teachers, managing curriculum, and evaluating effectiveness.Cultivate community and belonging by fostering healthy group environments and strong leadership pipelines.Ensure compliance with the church's Child/Youth Protection Policy for children and preschool ministries.D. Teaching and PreachingServe as a teacher and occasional preacher as scheduled by the Lead Pastor.Model biblical teaching in all settings and equip others to do the same.E. MissionsServe as pastoral liaison to the missions committee, offering guidance and ensuring strategic alignment between the Church's mission strategy and ministry activities.

V. GENERAL EXPECTATIONSEngage in regular pastoral care and hospital visitation as needed.Participate in outreach and evangelistic initiatives of the church.Attend appropriate committee and team meetings.Maintain regular involvement in ministerial staff meetings and prayer gatherings.Keep staff informed of discipleship and connection strategies.Assist in weddings, funerals, and special services as requested.Help develop and manage the annual budget for Families and Connections ministries.Regularly attend Sunday and Wednesday services unless otherwise assigned.Cooperate with associational, state, and denominational partners as needed.Accept other assignments as requested by the Lead Pastor.

VII. BASIC QUALIFICATIONSDemonstrated ability to guide individuals into deeper faith and meaningful church involvement.Proven ability to design and lead effective systems for guest assimilation and member engagement.Bachelor's degree required; seminary education preferred (Southern Baptist Seminary ideal).
