Associate Pastor for Operations

Job Overview

Heritage Baptist Church seeks an Associate Pastor for Operations to lead the non-ministry staff, oversee the church's operations, and disciple the congregation toward biblical generosity. This role requires a passion for both leadership development (helping the staff team thrive) and practical stewardship (running stuff well and getting stuff done). The right leader will possess a pastoral heart and instinct, a passion for gospel ministry, and proven skill in organizational leadership and management.

QUALIFICATIONS

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Grow in the gospel by actively worshiping Christ in and out of Sunday morning
  • Participate and relationally engage in the life and ministry of Heritage on Sundays, Wednesdays and throughout the week.
  • Serve as an active, vocational member of the Elder Team
  • Serve during non-weekend functions, as needed – e.g., special services, conferences, dinners/meals, etc.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and Sunday planning meetings
  • Participate in the planning and administration of special events in collaboration with elders, staff, and deacon teams

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help to shape church and staff culture through healthy presence and effective communication that casts vision, creates unity, and advances the mission.
    • Participate in conversations with Lead Pastor regarding overall staffing and ministry strategies
    • Participate in weekly Sunday planning meetings
    • Consult, assist, and troubleshoot with other staff regarding churchwide ministry initiatives. As needed, proactively speak into potential weak spots or possible areas for improvement to ensure alignment, effectiveness, and strategic development.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to direct reports
    • Office Administrator (weekly check-in)
    • Finance Administrator (weekly check-in)
    • Facilities Director (weekly check-in)
    • Deacon Fellowship Team (monthly check-in)
    • Deacon Facility Team (monthly check-in)
    • Deacon Finance Team (monthly check-in)
  • Manage the Operations of the Church
    • HR: payroll; benefits; hiring and firing; review & evaluation; policies & procedures
    • Facility: leases, operations, equipment, maintenance, & capital improvements
    • Meet with the Operations Team quarterly to review insurance, employee handbook, finances, venue, and office space contracts, etc.
    • Security Team: training; logistics; compliance
    • Ensure that the emergency evacuation plan is up to date and clearly communicated.
    • Oversight of church-wide communication
    • In a nutshell: ensure the "business of the church" is executed well to facilitate and support the ministry of the church
  • Manage church finances and develop stewardship and generosity.
    • Help to set financial goals in collaboration with the Elder Team
    • Create and implement strategies for member giving and stewardship
    • Review monthly expenses and meet with ministry stakeholders, as needed, to evaluate spending
    • Provide leadership to special projects – e.g., capital fundraising, church planting campaigns, church-wide celebrations, etc.
    • Responsible for creating the annual budget in collaboration with the Finance Team and Council of Elders

PASTORAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide a visible and accessible leadership presence during weekend services
  • Preach and serve in other Sunday worship service roles as needed – e.g., call to worship, pastoral prayer, baptism & communion, etc.
  • Teach classes and seminars as needed.
  • Provide specialized pastoral care when appropriate – e.g., hospital & home visits, funerals, weddings, etc.
  • Provide short-term individual counseling as needed
  • Support, encourage, visit, and help those in need in our church and the broader community.

EXPECTATIONS & COMPENSATION

  • Hours: 40-50 per week
  • Salary: to be determined based on experience and stage of life.
