Job Overview

Heartland Community Baptist Church in Sioux City, Iowa, is seeking a full time Associate Pastor to join our Lead Pastor and church leadership in the task of teaching, shepherding, and equipping the church for the work of ministry.

Heartland Church is a growing, multicultural Southern Baptist congregation that is committed to the command of Jesus to make disciples who make disciples. Our purpose is to, “glorify God by obeying the Great Commandment and the Great Commission, resulting in a great New Testament Church.” We are cultivating a culture of evangelism and discipleship within the church body that overflows into our community, motivated by our love of God and others. 

A few of the responsibilities for this Associate Pastor position include, providing leadership and guidance for team leaders, training, discipling, and equipping the church for ministry work, assisting with teaching and preaching, and offering pastoral care. 

Qualified candidates will possess pastoral experience and at least a bachelors degree with a ministry emphasis.

Job Description

General Description Summary:

1. Provide leadership and guidance for team leaders
2. Train and equip church members for ministry
3. Mentor and coach leaders to share the gospel and make disciples
4. Assist the Lead Pastor in the teaching and preaching ministry
5. Assist the Lead Pastor in weddings and funerals
6. Assist the Lead Pastor in conducting baptisms and serving the Lord’s Supper
7. Perform various administrative duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Oversee recruitment and training of ministry leaders and teachers

• • Provide support and guidance to leaders and teams
  • Oversee leadership development
  • Facilitate the Life Development Ministry

2. Oversee the mentoring/coaching ministry

• Develop a strategic system for mentoring/coaching
• Train leaders to mentor and coach others
• Train leaders of leaders to oversee the coaching ministry

3. Oversee Life Development courses

• Lead classes and train others to lead (101, 201, 301, 401)
• Develop and maintain core curriculum and resources

4. Oversee the development and multiplication of small groups (Shared Life Ministry):

• Develop and implement a strategic system for multiplying small groups
• Train leaders to facilitate and reproduce a small group
• Train leaders of leaders to oversee the small group ministry

5. Assist the Leader Pastor in pastoral-related duties

• Teaching and preaching 
• Officiating funerals and weddings
• Baptizing and serving the Lord’s Supper
• Administration

Job Specifications:

1. Meets the spiritual qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1
2. Evidence of maturity, interpersonal, and leadership skills
3. Experience and training in pastoral ministry
4. Able to teach, preach, and write to communicate biblical principles
5. Skilled in sharing the gospel and making disciples
6. Able to provide leadership and administration support in overseeing the ministry of the church
7. Able to produce various forms of communication using technology and software
8. Recommended minimal level of education: Masters with Biblical studies emphasis
