Description of Organization

About Denver Baptist Church:

DBC was a mission sent out by Center View Baptist Church in Maiden, NC, in 1982, and was eventually chartered in 1984 with 69 members. It has continued to grow through the preaching of the Gospel, commitment to God's Word, and love of mission. DBC now sits on 35 acres of property in the heart of Denver and attracts around 500 people each week. At Denver Baptist Church, we exist to glorify God by making disciples that advance the Gospel—in our homes, in our city, and around the world.

DBC Priorities:

1. The Centrality of the Cross - On the cross, Jesus Christ offered Himself as a substitutionary sacrifice, bearing the full weight of God's just wrath against sin. Through His death, all who trust in Him by faith are justified and adopted as sons and daughters of God. The cross is the climactic moment in history, and the full revelation of God's holiness, justice, love, and grace. It is therefore the foundation of our ministry and message. The cross not only secures our salvation, but it compels us to walk in the self-sacrificing love that Christ exemplified in His suffering. 1 Corinthians 2:2, "for I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified."

2. The Sufficiency of God's Word - We believe that the Bible is authoritative for faith and life and the instrument used by the Holy Spirit to generate faith in Christ and grow us into Christlike maturity. The Word is God's plan for making His people complete. When we gather, we sing, preach, and pray the Word. It is the tool of our evangelism and our discipleship. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, "All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."

3. The Proclamation of the Gospel - The church's mission is to proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom of Heaven. We don't build the kingdom. That is God's work. We don't save people. That is God's work. We proclaim the message of salvation through which God saves His people and builds His kingdom. Therefore, everything we do should be aimed at gospel proclamation. 1 Peter 2:9-10, "but you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light."

4. The Engagement of Our Members - The local church's ministry is the work of members of a local church. God has given His church great authority and gifts to His people. The health of a church and the effectiveness of its ministry, in and out of the body, is, therefore, dependent on the participation of the whole church, the whole body. There are no spectators in the Kingdom of God. Ephesians 4:11-13, "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ."

5. The Holiness of Our Lives - God's desire for His people is spiritual maturity. Evangelism is only the beginning of the great commission work. The goal is not converts but disciples who continue to grow in spiritual maturity and Christlikeness. Disciples, changed by the nature of God, should reflect the nature of God to a lost and godless world. As He is holy, so shall His people be holy. This distinctiveness of His people, individually and corporately, should result in glory to Him, the Triune God. Matthew 5:14-16, "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

6. The Sharing of Our Resources - All that we have is entrusted to us by God. Our job is to steward all that he entrusts for the good of the Gospel and His glory. We do this individually and corporately. Our resources, whether money, people, buildings, or something else, should be used not only for our own good but also for the good of the kingdom. Therefore, we will be open-eyed for opportunities to share and open-handed with all God gives us. Philippians 4:14-17, "Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the Gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. Even in Thessalonica, you sent me help for my needs once and again. Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit."

7. The Task of Global Mission - Jesus gave the church a mission: to make disciples of all nations. That mission is not yet finished. While we rightly devote attention to evangelism and discipleship locally, we must also devote resources to spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth until all have heard the good news. Matthew 28:18-20, "And Jesus came and said to them, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

8. The Practice of Constant Prayer - Prayer is not optional in a local church; it is essential. Through the practice of constant prayer, our wills become aligned with and surrendered to God's will. Prayer humbles, comforts, convicts, clarifies, strengthens, encourages, purifies, paces, unites, heals, protects, and propels the local church. Our corporate gatherings, small groups, families, homes, and indeed our very lives are to be marked by prayer. Ephesians 6:18, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
