Job Overview
Principal Function: The Pastor of Discipleship and Families is responsible for leading and championing the ministry of discipleship at Madison Baptist Church. As a leader in discipleship, this position is for a disciple maker, focused on developing ministry leaders. The Pastor of Discipleship and Families is responsible for overseeing the health and growth of family ministry at MBC, with direct participation in leading the ministry to students.
The Pastor of Discipleship and Families is a pastor to the whole church. The ideal candidate will be committed to the qualifications and ministry of a pastor set forth in 1 Timothy 3-4, aid the Senior Pastor in shepherding the church (1 Peter 5), and exercise his gifts of preaching and teaching as needed. The Pastor of Discipleship and Families is a vocal proponent, and exemplary participant, in the ministries and mission of Madison Baptist Church. The Pastor of Discipleship and Families should be passionate and enthusiastic about the disciple-making process, as well as be an effective communicator, respectful, resourceful, conscientious and intelligent.
Job Description
Core Responsibilities: There are four main components to this position:
1. Pastor The Pastor of Discipleship and Families is an integral part of the pastoral staff at MBC and a ministry leader for the entire congregation. Pastoral responsibilities includes congregational care, preaching and teaching, and ministering to the needs of the congregation.
2. Discipleship Leading the Sunday School program, working with teachers on curriculum decisions, advising and supporting the men's ministry and women's ministry, and all other discipleship efforts at MBC. The Pastor of Discipleship and Families will give special attention to developing leaders and teachers throughout the congregation as we build a disciple-making culture church-wide.
3. Students The Pastor of Discipleship and Families will oversee the health and growth of family ministry at MBC, and personally lead the ministry to students. This includes recruiting and training volunteers, organizing student discipleship, building and executing a clearly communicated plan for the structure of the student ministry, communicating with student ministry parents and volunteers, and personally teaching the students as needed. He will also develop strategies to reach out to youth in the local community and establish partnerships and opportunities for ministry outreach.
4. Families The Pastor of Discipleship and Families will supervise outreach for and ministry to families and children. This includes giving special attention to families in the church's discipleship efforts; developing programs, opportunities and events (for fellowship or equipping) to equip parents to raise and disciple their children and serving as a member of and resource for the Children's Ministry Committee. The ministry is committee-led. This role functions as a resource to the committee, not as a de-fact children's minister.
Other Duties and Requirements:
- Supervise any interns or employees serving in student or family ministry.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to relate well to church members and families.
- Represents the church staff as a member of the student ministry committee and children's ministry committee.
- Give input in developing budgets related to Sunday School, discipleship, student, and children's ministry.
- Receptive to continued professional development.
- Background check and Ministry Safe training required (done upon hiring).
- Live within Morgan or surrounding counties.
- Perform any and all duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
Qualifications:
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and clear understanding of the Christian faith is essential for this position.
- M.Div. preferred; At least 3 years of similar ministry experience preferred.
- Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Ability to work in a positive, efficient, effective, and independent manner, as well as in team-based settings.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
Compensation:
Compensation discussed as part of the interview process; pay package includes use of a church- owned home in the Downtown Madison historic district.
