EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

Position Title: Discipleship Pastor

Terms of Employment: Full Time Salary

Hours: 40 hours per week.

Compensation: $45,000-$55,000/Annual Salary (dependent on experience)

Benefits: Retirement Matching Contribution

Supervision: Associate Pastors will report directly to the Pastor and will also be responsible to the Elders and Personnel Committee. As an Elder of the church, Pastors are also ultimately accountable to the Lord and the church body.

Hours: Office hours must be kept and should consist of no less than 24 hours per week. It is also expected that Sunday mornings be part of the regular work week. These hours will be flexible to work with the staff member and their schedule.

Vacation: 2 week per calendar year.

Termination: The position may be terminated at any time by the Personnel Committee at the recommendation of the Pastoral Staff, Elders, and/or the Personnel Committee.

OBJECTIVE:

The Discipleship Associate Pastor will oversee the discipleship ministries of the church; cultivating a multi-generational ministry where authentic, transparent, Christ-centered relationships are formed and people are connected, cared for, and grow in their faith. The primary demographic includes K-young adults.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Dedicated follower of Jesus Christ.
  • Active First Baptist Church Member. (see attached statement of faith & membership covenant)
  • A demonstrated desire to serve the church, teach the word, and be a servant leader.
  • Aspires to Eldership (see attached role description)
  • A confirmed Elder at FBC or a probationary employee serving as an apprentice Elder while being tested and approved.
  • A demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • A self-starter who can anticipate, initiate, and complete tasks. Has the ability to plan, develop and coordinate multiple projects and ministry needs.
  • Demonstrates an attitude of humility.
  • Is supportive of church policies, the church staff, and the church family.
  • Is committed to weekly church attendance.
  • Ensure work standards and assignments conform to approved formats and standards.

Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In coordination with the Elders, help develop a multi-generational discipleship plan for our church.
  • Oversee, participate in, and ensure the Elders maintain diligence in prioritizing discipleship group ministries (home Bible studies/community groups/Sunday school) within the church and ways of connecting people to them.
  • Implement and oversee the discipleship and teaching plan within the preschool through young adult demographic that encourages multi-generation participation utilizing the current programs when appropriate.
    • Outreach programs, activities, and events.
    • Spiritual growth programs, activities and events that include opportunities for worship, fellowship with each other, learning of Biblical truths and how to apply them to their lives.
    • Leadership programs, activities, mission trips, and events that encourage service and outreach.
  • Recruit and train volunteer leaders to help you accomplish the mission of the church.
    • Create clear ways for adults to help bridge the gap between connecting with students and connecting students with the body of Christ.
    • Meet regularly with your volunteers and staff, communicating vision and expectations.
    • Build into your team with consistent training and equipping.
    • Consider annual training events or conferences for your team.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local schools, churches, and ministries.
    • Seek out opportunities to connect with students on campuses, at sports events, or other community activities.
    • Build relationships with staff and administrators connected to organization serving the specified demographic.
    • Network with other local churches and Christian ministries, working together to reach students in our community and connect them to Christ and a local church.
  • Build and maintain quality relationships with parents.
    • Clearly share your vision with parents so they understand the purpose of the ministry.
    • Create avenues of consistent contact with parents and students with regular phone calls, emails, parent meetings, texts, and social media publicity, etc.
    • Become aware of the needs of the parents, offering and facilitating training events to help educate, encourage and equip.
  • Develop and distribute an approved quarterly calendar to parents and students.
  • Set and oversee the Children's, Youth, and Young Adult ministry budget.
  • Ask questions, seek to lead, attempt things that require deep faith, and grow.

General Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure sound and quality teaching within the ministries of the church.
  • Meet with people in our body, as needed, to shepherd and connect them.
  • Be available for intermittent teaching and preaching as needed, requested, or scheduled.
  • Pray for, serve, encourage, counsel, and teach individuals when needed.
  • Meet weekly with the church staff for prayer, devotions, accountability, and planning.
