Associate Pastor or Director of Worship Arts

Job Overview

The man filling this position will serve in a full-time capacity as Associate Pastor or Director of the Worship Arts Ministry at River Cities Community Church. He will be accountable and report to the Senior Pastor and the Board of Elders. The objective of this position is to direct the Worship Arts Ministry in a way that makes disciples who magnify Jesus in their homes, communities, and globally by sharing the Gospel and loving our neighbors as ourselves. The requirements for the position include a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in music and/or Bible, as well as experience as a worship leader.

Job Description

Pastor (in the event the chosen candidate is a Pastor by training and experience)

  • He will work in harmony with the other Pastors and Elders in fulfilling the mission and achieving the vision of River Cities Community Church.
  • As a Pastor, he will also serve as an Elder of River Cities Community Church by meeting the scriptural qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
  • As an Elder, he will attend the monthly meetings, participate in training, and serve on committees established by the Board of Elders as deemed necessary.
  • He will work in conjunction with other Pastor(s) by attending weekly Staff meetings and by alternating as" Pastor of the Day." This will involve 2 days per week. Primarily, this will be hospital visitation and/or emergency situations.
  • He will be concerned for the spiritual welfare of all members of River Cities Community Church, and especially those involved in the worship arts ministries.
  • In conjunction with the Pastor overseeing Discipleship and Small Groups, he will regularly teach or facilitate a class or Small Group.
  • In the event that the Senior Pastor is unable to preach, he may be asked to preach.

The roles enumerated below apply if the chosen candidate is a Worship Pastor or Worship Director:

Director

  • He will seek to understand, articulate, promote, and implement the vision and philosophy of worship established by the Elders.
  • He will serve as Director of the Worship Arts Ministry. It is understood and expected that he will disciple and develop leaders under him to lead worship in his absence.
  • He will affirm and encourage all aspects of the worship arts ministries, and recruit and train new participants.
  • In the attitude of servant leadership, he will oversee and cooperatively work with the lay coordinators of various worship arts ministries, which may include other choirs (youth and children), sound/video techs, dance, and drama. This involves regular contact with the lay coordinators who comprise the Worship Arts Ministry Team for the purpose of fostering harmony, planning, and communication.
  • He will develop a long-range worship plan in collaboration with the Pastor(s) and Worship Arts Ministry Team.

Worship Leader

  • He will support the vision of the church through the worship experience at each individual service. This support may be in the form of leading the worship services or discipling and growing other leaders by allowing them to lead a worship service.
  • He will work with the Directors of Children's and Youth Ministries to create a worship culture and worship opportunities in which children and youth may participate.
  • He will have a high level of competency in keyboard and/or guitar, as well as planning and arranging of worship music.
  • He will oversee and direct the incorporation of music, drama, dance, and visual arts in blending the traditional and contemporary styles of corporate worship.
  • He will have a significant understanding of worship and music in order to direct and supervise the ministry of the church in these areas.

Administrator

  • He will be the point of contact for the various worship arts ministries.
  • He will foster the technical development of choirs, bands, ensemble groups, and instrumental groups.
  • He will plan for and coordinate the various worship arts ministries of River Cities Community Church.
  • He will work closely with the Senior Pastor to develop the order of service that supports and enhances the proclamation of the word in the sermons.
  • He will oversee copyright compliance.
  • He will oversee the maintenance of the music resources.
  • He will commit to lifelong learning and identify seminars and conferences for ongoing personal development as the administrator over the Worship Arts Ministry.
  • He will work with various lay coordinators of the worship arts ministries to develop the annual Worship Arts Ministry budget.
  • He will be responsible for other duties as assigned.

*Ministries within the Worship Arts Ministry include, but are not limited to, Worship Media, Sound Techs, Praise Band, Adult and Children's Choirs, Ladies Ensemble, Hand Bell Choirs, Interpretive Dance, and Silent Voice (Deaf Ministry).
