The Associate/Youth Pastor will provide full-time pastoral leadership along with the Lead Pastor, focusing specifically on the Student and Children Ministries.. He shall faithfully proclaim the Word of God, pray fervently over the church, counsel biblically, and equip the saints to be faithful disciples of Christ. We are looking for a man with the mindset of serving here for the longterm

Mount Zion Baptist Church is located 8 minutes outside historic downtown Jonesborough (the oldest town in Tennessee). MZBC was established in 1922 and is continuing to grow. We have a great diversity of ages represented among our 200+ members, with around 70 under the age of 18. We strive to create a welcoming and worshipful environment in our services, and place a heavy emphasis on discipleship and missions locally, nationally and globally.

Qualifications

• Faithful disciple of Christ with a clear testimony, has been baptized by immersion, and is in agreement with Mt. Zion Baptist’s beliefs, SBC’s 2001 Baptist Faith and Message (https://www.mzionbc.com/beliefs) 
• Meets all pastoral requirements as set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9
• Exhibits Godly principles and utmost integrity in all interpersonal relationships (including but not limited to marriage, parenting, dating, student interactions, etc.)
• A calling and passion for student ministry
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) 
• 3+ years’ experience leading youth ministry (preferred)
• 3+ years’ experience recruiting, training, and leading volunteer teams
• A proven track record of disciple making in the context of youth ministry
• Self-motivated to start and complete tasks in an organized and timely manner
• Strong interpersonal and verbal skills to work in groups and delegate tasks
• Able to clearly articulate a biblical vision for the value and priority of youth ministry
• Displays ability to maturely handle the word of God
• Displays chemistry with overall church vision, mission, and values
• Dedication to expository teaching of the Bible

Personal Responsibilities

• Maintain a consistent devotional life with Christ that is fueled by personal worship (Col. 3:16)
• Continue to maintain possession of qualities required of a pastor (1 Tim. 3:1-7)
• Be an example to the flock in all manner of conduct and character in your marriage, parenting, personal life and work ethic (1 Peter 5:1-4)
• Be loyal to the vision and staff of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and always protect the unity of the church (Proverbs 17:17)
• Actively pursue the mission of the church to make disciples who make disciples (2 Tim. 2:2)
• Maintain a consistent prayer life on behalf of the Church (Philippians 1:3-11)

Position Overview

• Serve alongside Lead Pastor in shepherding the entire congregation
• Regular Rotation in Preaching to whole congregation
• Biblically Counsel all ages as needed
• Create and implement a strategic mission plan for making disciples in the context of student and children ministries 
• Training students and children to live in accordance with sound doctrine (Titus 2:1)
• Direct leadership of MIddle and High School Ministry.
  • Planning and Teaching Wednesday Night Youth Worship Services
  • Oversight of
    • Sunday School for Students
    • Small Group/Discipleship Groups for Students
    • Trips/Activities/Service Projects for Students
  • Identify and develop volunteers for children, pre-teen, youth and college ministry
  • Shepherd families to help them raise their students up in the Lord
  • Engage students on a personal and relational level
  • Ensure the safety and order of youth ministry facilities
  • Maintain an up-to-date and organized student record
  • Establish and implement policy standards for students and children
  • Intentionally seek opportunities for evangelism at schools, sporting events, and in the community
• Administration and Oversight of Children’s, Pre-Teen and College Ministry. 
  • This includes supervision of teachers, curriculum and programming for Sunday School, Children’s Church, Wednesday night, VBS and special events.
