Bi-Vocational Pastor The First Baptist Church of Coal City (est. in 1955) located in Coal City Illinois is prayerfully seeking a bi-vocational pastor. Coal City and the surrounding communities is typical small town America with a population of approximately 10,000 people. Located about 60 miles south of Chicago, Coal City is known for its small town, tight knit atmosphere with exceptional schools and community spirit. Although our congregation is currently small in size, we are a committed and faithful church family that has a passion for community outreach and welcome a pastor with a similar evangelizing drive. The Pastor's primary role will be to preach and teach the Word of God effectively to multiple generations resulting in the salvation of souls and the transformation of lives. His oversight will include lovingly and strategically creating an environment that the Holy Spirit can use to convert lives; challenge the congregation to live out their faith; and encourage participation in the work of the body of Christ. The pastor of the First Baptist Church of Coal City in this bi-vocational role will be free to pursue secondary employment which supplements his income. Duties as pastor and secondary employment responsibilities will be accomplished through open communication with Church Council.The successful candidate for this position will fulfill the following:  Preach all worship services while making the message relevant to people's lives.  Plan, coordinate and evaluate the congregational services with other team members.  Provide guidance in planning, organizing and directing the total church program.  Serve as spiritual leader for the congregation, offering an environment for spiritual growth, opportunities for discipleship, priority of Christian fellowship among believers, and emphasize a priority of prayer.  Provide biblical counseling and spiritual insight.  Fulfill the biblical job description of the pastor.  Join in with church members to visit those that are sick, in the hospital, and homebound.  Develop and evaluate strategies to reach the lost in our community.  Some seminary training preferred Must be a member in a Southern Baptist Church and be committed to the Baptist Faith and Message.  Be of good moral character.  Be a person that connects with various age groups and demographics.  Have strong Leadership skills with a vision of unity. Scheduled weekly commitments will include: participate in Sunday school, Preach Sunday morning services, Sunday evening and Wednesday evening prayer services (not being held at this time), and will also need to reside over church council meetings as well as church business meetings. Should be open to discuss hospital visitation and participating in special groups as well as other needs of the church body.
