Job Description
The Campus Pastor for the Kent Island location will have the opportunity to establish and launch a new ministry with tremendous existing resources. In order to gain understanding and be equipped to translate the healthy culture of BACC into a new context and community, during the pre-launch phase, the Campus Pastor will spend time soaking in the ethos and gaining perspective on the essential elements for success. This will involve engaging with the leadership and staff team, building relationships, observing the ministries in action, participating in a community group, and gaining a clear picture of the missional vision and values of the church. He will also spend time building relationships and developing a launch team to join with him in translating BACC essentials into a smaller, start-up context for Kent Island. He will engage in activities like casting the vision within the church, as well as relationally connecting, and developing the individuals who will serve in key volunteer leadership roles at the campus. He will facilitate connections with the main campus leaders to ensure core leadership is trained, well resourced, and appropriately prepared. It is essential the Campus Pastor be a self-starter who is skilled and motivated to equip people, build teams, and catalyze the development of the campus through volunteer teams who will lead out in areas like hospitality, connection, children's ministry, student ministry, local outreach, worship/tech and all other functions that accompany a new campus launch.
In addition to gathering support for the new campus within the congregation, this leader will spend time getting to know Kent Island and the Eastern Shore that will be home to the campus. Kent Island is a blend of cultures, with many long-time people on the island and many newcomers, young and old. Kent Island offers a unique coastal lifestyle with a strong sense of community and natural beauty. Residents enjoy a peaceful, laid-back atmosphere while still being just a short drive from Annapolis and about an hour from Baltimore and Washington, D.C. The island's parks, trails, and beaches provide ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, contributing to a high quality of life for those who appreciate a blend of nature and proximity to urban amenities. Despite the natural beauty and local community feel, Kent Island is a place that is spiritually dry and badly needs the light and love of Jesus.
The campus pastor will need to understand the demographics of the area, lead the preparation of the facility, introduce BACC to community influencers, handle logistics, and make other start-up arrangements. There are bound to be hurdles and challenges along the way, so the Campus Pastor must be a creative problem solver who is able to adapt when needed, resource options, analyze and assess potential, and figure out how all the pieces fall together for maximum results. Fortunately, he will have the support, experience and encouragement of BACC staff team along the way.
After the launch of the new campus, the Campus Pastor will work collaboratively alongside various pastors and directors, other campus pastors and report to the Annapolis Campus Pastor. He will be the "up-front" face of the campus, serving as its visible pastor, responsible for all aspects of shepherding the campus community and overseeing the campus staff. There will be opportunities to preach, so the campus pastor must possess a certain level of expository giftedness. The majority of the preaching will be delivered to the campus through a live stream of the Lead Pastor or Teaching Pastor. Ideally, the campus will be self-funding within the first two years.
BACC hopes this new campus will see many new disciples made, and a growing body of believers that is expanding the Kingdom. Success will be celebrated as people are developed and matured, teams are equipped and deployed, and volunteers are trained and empowered to use their gifts for God's glory. Most importantly, we will celebrate as more and more people passionately love Jesus
