The primary role of the children’s minister is to cast vision, build, and execute the “Why” when it comes to ministering to the children and families at The Mount. Working with the Leadership Team, this position creates a culture of care that permeates all ministries within The Mount Church.  This role will be the catalyst to create care and trust for our families.  It is imperative that this leader have a people first mindset and have a strong ability to connect with people.  This team member needs to be able to execute a plan while building teams that can get the vision to become a reality.   The Children’s Minister reports to Executive Pastor.

Job Description

Children’s Ministry Primary Objectives and Responsibilities

LEADERSHIP

  • Keep children’s ministry aligned with church vision/mission (Following Jesus Together).
  • Cast vision and create culture in children’s ministry.
  • Manage completion of operational tasks, such as supplies, facility maintenance, communications, budgeting, promotion, calendaring, and technology.
  • Build relationships with key leaders, volunteers, parents, and children. Provide mentoring, counseling, coaching, and support as needed and appropriate.
  • Implement and oversee all child safety policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicate with families, volunteers, and children (i.e. maintain social media accounts).

 

CHILDREN 

  • Develop discipleship strategies for children.
  • Create age-appropriate opportunities for preschoolers and children to study the Bible, learn gospel truths, experience worship, and connect with their peers in meaningful ways.
  • Select gospel-centered curriculum and lead teachers to effectively teach children, laying foundations of faith across all age levels.
  • Provide and organize creative events for children (i.e. Summer Camps, Parent’s Night Out).
  • Manage all aspects of childcare for approved classes, programs, training, and church-wide events.

 

VOLUNTEERS

  • Lead the children’s ministry volunteer team through enlistment, onboarding, screening, equipping, oversight, scheduling, communication, appreciation, and care.
  • Identify and develop key volunteer leadership.
  • Provide effective training for all volunteers working with children.

 

PARENTS/FAMILIES

  • Reach out to families to provide ministry and build relationships.
  • Coordinate with the NextGen Team to strategically engage families of children in the ministry and equip them in the discipleship of their children.
  • Coach parents on guiding gospel conversations at home, leading their child to Christ, and preparation for Baptism.
  • Recognize milestones including Family Dedication, welcoming new babies, and adoptions.

 

GENERAL

  • Stay informed of trends in children’s ministry and keep the ministry current.
  • Be present and visible during scheduled programs and events, both in children’s ministry and church-wide.
  • Protect the unity and culture of our staff, we work hard and have fun doing it.
  • Actively engage in staff relationships and culture
  • Other duties as assigned by the Executive Pastor.

 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Pursue a personal, daily walk with Jesus
  • Be an active member through financial generosity and service
  • Administrative and organizational skills—able to think in systems and structures
  • Interpersonal skills—able to communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Understand group dynamics—able to build consensus among varying personality types
  • Solid biblical/theological convictions which are aligned with that of The Mount
  • Must be an effective communicator
  • Team Builder

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • An appropriate educational background (bachelor’s/ master’s degree or equivalent work experience)
  • Sufficient experience on a senior leadership team within a medium to large organization or church context that reveals skills necessary for this role
  • Attend staff meetings and events
  • Must be a proven leader, builder, and executor
