Children’s Ministry Director

Job Overview

Community Bible Church (CBC) is seeking a full-time Children's Ministry Director who seeks to launch kids into a lifetime of following Jesus Christ through caring, Christ-centered relationships and teaching. We have a strong children's ministry in place, known as CBC Kids, encompassing children from birth through fifth grade, utilizing a staff of approximately 250 volunteers. Therefore, we desire a leader who not only has a heart for reaching children for Christ, but who can continue to build and unite current and future staff while exhibiting strong organizational skills. A proven track record of visionary oversight, and the building and equipping of teams is critical. This person must be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ who demonstrates godly character, a servant's heart, and is a team player. He or she must exhibit the ability to promote and administer creative programs that appeal to both churched and unchurched families. Children's programs already established at CBC which would be overseen by this position include:

  • Sunday Morning Ministries including Nursery, Preschool, and Elementary age-appropriate programs (150+ children)
  • Wednesday Evening Ministries (50+ children third through fifth grade) and childcare (5+ children)
  • Annual, summer Backyard Bible Clubs (kindergarten through third grade).
  • Annual, week-long Junior Camp overnight camp (90+ children third through fifth grade)

Located in Marietta, Pennsylvania, Community Bible Church serves the communities of Lancaster, York, and Dauphin Counties with a regional population of approximately 1,000,000. The area is economically stable, growing, and full of young families. We desire to be a place where Loving God, Loving Others, and Reaching Out is the basis for all we do. We would prefer, but do not require the following:

  1. A Bachelor's Degree in Bible from an accredited Evangelical College or Seminary.
  2. Two years or more of children's ministry or equivalent combination of education and experience in a church of comparable size or larger.
  3. Training/education in childhood development.

Job Description

SUMMARY The primary purpose of the Children's Ministry Director position is to give oversight to the ministry for children from infant through fifth grade and their families. He/she will develop, create, and implement children's ministries where the children and staff of CBC are mentored, trained, and taught to genuinely know and Love God, Love Others, and ReachOut to those who don't know Him yet.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ▪ Give vision and administrative oversight to all aspects of the ministry to children and their families. ▪ Initiate and oversee a strategy to assist with the spiritual formation in the lives of those under his/her leadership. ▪ Recruit, equip, encourage, and develop the Children's Ministry Leadership Team to serve effectively in children's ministry. ▪ Coordinate appropriate staffing needs for designated areas of children's ministry in cooperation with the ministry leaders. ▪ Coordinate communication between the various children's ministries. ▪ Ensure that all child protection procedures and protocols including screening, background checks, etc. are completed, maintained, and kept current. ▪ Coordinate the Bible curriculum for each segment of the children's ministry. ▪ Take adequate time for Bible study and prayer. ▪ Keep informed in his/her area of ministry and continue to develop his/her skills. ▪ Partner with other ministry leaders to equip, encourage, and empower parents as the mentors of their children, and provide continuity throughout the CBC ministries to families. ▪ Coordinate shared facility space with an Early Learning Center (if in operation). ▪ Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience A bachelor's degree in Bible is preferred. Should also have training/education in child development.
