Job Overview

Purpose

To make fully devoted disciples among the children of Cornerstone Church of Skippack by equipping parents and volunteers to teach and model the gospel to children.

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience in Children’s Ministry is required
  • Experience leading and organizing a large number of ministry volunteers is preferred
  • Experience working with children and families affected by disability is desirable
  • Ability to recruit, equip, and lead volunteer teams
  • Ability to teach children God’s word
  • Ability to equip parents to disciple their children
  • Work well with staff and under the elders

Job Description

Responsibilities

Oversee Children’s Ministry Programs

  • Oversee all programming and ministry for children, birth – 5th grade, including during the Life Groups hour, Junior Church, Summit Kids, and any future ministry endeavors.
  • Oversee all seasonal and special activities for children, birth – 5th This might include but is not limited to:
    • Sunday night children’s program
    • Easter children’s activities
    • Vacation Bible School
  • Work with Elders to choose and prepare appropriate and effective curriculum for each program and age level
  • Work with Elders to develop and maintain a plan to equip parents with quality resources
  • Resolve conflict that arises, serving as an intermediary between parents and teachers/volunteers
    • Should support be need in resolving conflict, the Elders are available to assist
  • Ensure a safe, confidence-inspiring check-in and pick-up process is in place
  • Follow up on visitors who have children in the children’s ministry

 

Recruit and Lead Volunteers

  • Recruit and train volunteers to serve as teachers and helpers in Children’s Ministry programs
    • Develop a plan for ongoing training for Children’s Ministry volunteers, especially teachers
  • Lead the Children’s Ministry Committee
  • Oversee schedule for all Children’s Ministry volunteers to ensure that all needed positions are filled
  • Ensure all volunteers have up to date background checks and clearances; and are kept up to date with all safety protocols (this includes occasional fire drills)
  • Hold at least one volunteer meeting per year to encourage, equip, and receive feedback

Other Children’s Ministry

  • Oversee Children’s Ministry budget
  • Ensure all parent and child information is up to date
  • Work with Youth Ministry leader(s) to successfully transition graduating 5th graders into Youth Ministry
  • The Children’s Ministry Director will report directly to the Senior Pastor
  • The Children’s Ministry Director is encouraged to be creative and innovative in the execution of their position, but must discuss the following areas with the Senior Pastor, who will discuss with the Elders if he deems it necessary:
    • Curriculum changes
    • Resources for discipling parents
    • Major ministry revisions (philosophy or format)
    • Disciplinary issues
    • Crisis situations (hurting marriages, abuse, death, …)
    • Significant changes to facilities outside the Children’s Ministry’s regular use
