Job Description
Philosophy Providence Church’s mission is to make disciples by “building bridges” to the community. By providing a high-quality ministry aimed at children, we have seen families in the community connect with the overall ministry at Providence Church.
The children’s ministry has two main specific objectives, disciple children and their families and disciple the volunteers. Although programs like Awana and Sunday Schools are tools we utilize to make disciples, these programs are not an end in themselves. The end goal is to see lives changed and our communities transformed.
Position Summary 1. Children’s Ministry Director (CMD) is to use their calling and gifting to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to children. 2. Developing/shepherding individual team volunteers 3. Fulfilling administrative/organizational responsibilities in alignment with overall Church mission/vision
Qualifications: Personal Christian Walk: 1. The Children’s Ministry Director must profess to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is confirmed by his/her outward lifestyle. (1 Timothy 3:1-7) 2. If married, the Children’s Ministry Director must have a healthy relationship with his/her spouse and children and have their support for involvement in this ministry. 3. The Children’s Ministry Director’s doctrinal beliefs must be compatible with the doctrines of Providence Church (He/she must become a member). 4. The Children’s Ministry Director’s “mission and vision” for ministry must align with the mission and vision of Providence Church.
Responsibilities: The Children’s Ministry Director will be responsible for the following:
- Leadership of Staff and Volunteer Teams: Success in this role will be best accomplished by prioritizing an investment in ministry leaders who, in turn, influence the children. Responsible for creating an environment that recruits, develops and empowers children’s ministry leaders:
- Foster a spiritually vibrant culture that works to create a healthy and sustainable ministry environments for CM leaders and the other volunteers. This will involve praying with and ministering to volunteers. Moreover, it will require the providing of updated procedures, regular trainings, and ensuring care for leaders.
- Communicating clearly as an advocate for Children’s Ministry to staff and church leadership and vice versa
- Assisting the Office Administrator in managing systems for background checks and ensuring all active volunteers are Safe Sanctuaries approved.
- Collaborating with the Student Ministry Director (SMD) to provide consistency and unity between the ministries and continually seeking to better the bridge of transition for kids leaving CM and entering SM.
- Building relationships and intentionally seeking out new families to help them navigate the ministry and getting plugged in.
- Managing budget forecasts and expenses for children’s ministry.
- Oversight and Execution of Programs & Ministries Sunday School, Awana, VBS, Church Retreat, and others. Responsible for helping to develop and execute programs that provide engaging experiences and life-changing environments for children.
- Actively involved in biblically teaching and leading children
- Willing and able to comfortably communicate with parents
- Provide insight and direction for big picture programming and creative planning processes.
- Recruit volunteers for CM programs.
- Communicate with volunteers to create and maintain a weekly schedule/rotation for Sunday school.
- Select relevant curriculum and working with teachers to tailor it to current needs based on ministry environment, ages of the kids, and their giftings.
- Work with the CMT directors in ordering curriculum/supplies, keeping an updated inventory of what is in stock, and keeping materials organized.
- Coordinate with the Communications Director to produce videos, printed promotions, verbal announcements, web page information, marketing, etc. about Children’s Ministry.
- Ensure that weekly supplies, lessons, and printed materials are distributed accordingly and provided to the leaders who need them.
- Create and maintaining a safe environment for kids, including special needs children.
Skill Set
- Active and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by action, attitude and behavior.
- Basic working understanding of Children’s Ministry and the administrative oversight required to keep a ministry running.
- A passion to see children & families engaging with God’s Word beyond the ministries and developing family discipleship in their homes.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience with direction and administration of Children’s Ministries or Family Ministries in recruiting, motivating, equipping and training volunteer leaders to minister to children and families.
- Effective communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).
- Competency with basic computer software such as ProPresenter, Office 365, and a willingness to learn new platforms required for the job.
Compensation Plan: Full-time salaried position with flexible hours. The compensation is negotiable based on experience and education
