Silverlake Community Church (SLCC) is a small Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation in the City of Angels with a long heritage of being a light in the darkness, a sanctuary to feel any emotions, and a place to see God's Word put into action.

This is a church where anybody is welcome to earnestly—though imperfectly—live by Jesus's teachings and make our little piece of the Kingdom a more safe, joyful, and just place to live.

Ministry in the eclectic, artistic, diverse neighborhood of Silver Lake can be challenging, but also exciting! SLCC excels at being integrated into the community...From being a center of 12-step recovery in Northeast LA to leading the charge in serving unhoused neighbors in our area, we are a force for good, and people know it.

The congregation is strong, too, and diverse in every way. At SLCC we find ways to support and celebrate each other's talents, to learn from each other, and we regularly share a big meal after church. We have a healthy Sunday School program that our children attend every week, and now we're looking for someone to help nurture our kids as they grow older, sustaining an enriching and high quality ministry to SLCC's youngest believers.

Job Description

ROLE To guide planning and execution of a program of Bible learning and childcare for kids ages 0-12

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Attend weekly church staff meetings on Zoom or in person.
• Select, develop and schedule curriculum for the Children's Ministry Sunday School program
• Teach Sunday School curriculum each Sunday during the weekly Worship Service
• Recruit Children's Ministry volunteers, implement a regular training program for the team, and coordinate regular planning meetings that include volunteer development and spiritual growth.
• Uphold the church's approved child safety policy, take necessary steps to put the policy into practice, and regularly evaluate its use. Direct staff/volunteers' awareness of and commitment to the policy.
• Coordinate and direct Nursery and Sunday School volunteers
• Pray regularly for each member of the Children's Ministry team / volunteers, families, and the children in the ministry.
• Collaborate with the Pastor / Head of Staff to regularly express appreciation to the Children's Ministry team / volunteers, including an end-of-the-year event.
• Maintain strong communications with church leaders and the congregation regarding the purpose, value, mission, and procedures of the Children's Ministry.
• Manage the Children's Ministry budget and Implement the purchase, distribution, and use of ministry tools, equipment and supplies (curriculum, snacks, art supplies, etc.).
