Children’s Ministry Intern
Purpose: The Children's Ministry Intern is a part-time, seasonal role designed for a college student pursuing ministry who desires hands-on experience in a vibrant church environment. This internship provides intentional mentorship and practical ministry training while supporting the Children's Ministry (Birth through 6th Grade) during the summer months. The intern will help create engaging, Christ-centered environments where children can connect, grow, and serve. This internship is both formative and practical, offering real ministry responsibility paired with coaching, feedback, and spiritual development.
Responsibilities● Partner with the Children's Minister to plan, prepare, and execute dynamic summer children's ministry programming.● Play an active role in weekly services, special events, outreach opportunities, and seasonal ministries (including Vacation Bible School and camps).● Build meaningful relationships with children and families through consistent presence, care, and encouragement.● Assist in teaching or facilitating engaging, biblical lessons, small groups, worship experiences, and activities.● Help create safe, welcoming, and fun environments.● Support and encourage volunteers through preparation, communication, and hands-on assistance.● Assist with classroom setup, teardown, organization, and preparation of materials.● Maintain accurate attendance and participation records when requested.● Attend mentoring check-ins throughout the internship.● Perform additional ministry-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications● Currently enrolled in college and pursuing ministry, theology, Christian education, or a related field.● Must possess a current driver's license.● A personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.● A heart for children and a desire to serve and lead them toward Christ.● Previous experience working with children in a church, camp, or ministry setting preferred but not required.● Teachable spirit with a willingness to learn, grow, and receive feedback.● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.● Positive attitude, flexibility, creativity, and a servant's heart.● Basic technology skills (email, shared documents, and social media familiarity preferred).● Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries.● Availability to work a part-time schedule throughout the summer, including Sundays, Wednesdays and special events.
Learning Objectives: By the end of the internship, the intern will have the opportunity to:● Gain practical experience in planning and leading children's ministry programming.● Develop confidence in teaching and communicating biblical truth to children in age-appropriate ways.● Learn best practices for child safety, volunteer coordination, and ministry administration.● Observe and participate in leadership, teamwork, and collaboration within a church setting.● Understand how children's ministry fits into the larger vision of church discipleship.● Grow personally and spiritually through mentorship, feedback, and real-world
