Contract Theological Curriculum Writers

Thirdmill Casselberry Contractor

Remote Contract Opportunity with Thirdmill

Are you a theologian, teacher, pastor, scholar, or curriculum writer who loves helping others understand Scripture clearly?

Thirdmill is seeking contract theological curriculum writers to help develop video-based biblical and theological curriculum for pastors, church leaders, and students around the world.

This is a meaningful opportunity for writers who can combine theological depth, clear teaching, and accessible communication. Our curriculum serves learners from many nations, languages, cultures, and educational backgrounds. Many of the pastors and students we serve have limited access to formal theological education, so our writers must be able to explain complex biblical and theological concepts with clarity, warmth, precision, and care.

Thirdmill is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide biblical education for the world, for free. Since 1997, Thirdmill has created seminary-level curriculum designed especially for under-resourced pastors and church leaders. As we continue expanding our curriculum offerings, we are looking for additional contract writers who can help us develop lessons similar to the series already published on thirdmill.org.

About the Role

Contract Theological Curriculum Writers work with Thirdmill’s curriculum team to research, outline, and write lessons for video-based biblical and theological curriculum. This work is not simply academic writing. It is not sermon writing. It is not devotional writing. It is theological teaching prepared for video production and global distribution.

Strong candidates will be able to take rich biblical and theological material and communicate it in a way that is accurate, engaging, relatable, and understandable for students with varying levels of formal education. Writers should be able to simplify complex concepts without weakening them, and write in a way that serves learners who may be encountering these ideas for the first time.

Video scriptwriting experience is preferred but not required. Thirdmill can help train strong theological writers in our video curriculum format.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for writers who are theologically grounded, thoughtful, teachable, and clear. Ideal candidates may include seminary professors, scholars, pastor-theologians, experienced teachers, or curriculum writers who have demonstrated the ability to communicate biblical and theological ideas faithfully and accessibly. A strong candidate will have:

• A strong theological background

• Excellent written communication skills

• The ability to explain complex ideas clearly and simply

• A commitment to biblical fidelity and theological seriousness

• Alignment with Thirdmill’s statement of faith and mission

• The ability to write for a global audience

• Sensitivity to students with limited formal biblical or theological education

• A willingness to learn Thirdmill’s curriculum structure, voice, and style

• The humility and discipline to receive editorial feedback and revise extensively

• The ability to work independently and meet agreed deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s or doctoral degree in theology, biblical studies, education, or a related field

• Teaching experience at the undergraduate, graduate, seminary, church, or ministry level

• Experience writing theological, biblical, educational, or curriculum-based material

• Experience writing for video, online learning, or instructional media

• Familiarity with writing for translation or international audiences

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, including Track Changes and formatting tools

• Experience with Wrike or similar project management tools is a plus

Responsibilities

Contract writers may be asked to:

• Research, outline, and write lessons based on Thirdmill’s curriculum needs and the writer’s area of expertise

• Develop content that is biblically faithful, theologically sound, and accessible to a broad audience

• Write curriculum specifically designed for video production

• Follow Thirdmill’s style guide, lesson structure, and curriculum voice

• Use translation-ready writing techniques

• Work closely with Thirdmill writers, editors, and reviewers

• Revise written content in response to editorial and theological feedback

• Meet deadlines according to the agreed scope of work

Application Process

To apply, please send your résumé and two to three writing samples to:[email protected]

Writing samples should demonstrate your ability to communicate biblical or theological ideas clearly. We welcome academic samples, teaching material, articles, curriculum content, or other writing that reflects your theological communication. At least one sample should show your ability to write for a broad or non-specialist audience, not only for an academic audience.

After reviewing your résumé and writing samples, we may contact you to schedule a brief interview. This conversation will focus on your theological background, writing experience, alignment with Thirdmill’s mission, and potential fit with our curriculum needs.

Candidates who move forward may be invited to complete a writing audition. For this step, candidates will prepare a 1,000-word writing sample on one of several theological topics provided by Thirdmill and format the sample according to Thirdmill’s style guide. This audition helps us understand how candidates approach theological content, communicate to a broad audience, and work within Thirdmill’s curriculum design requirements.

Please note that the writing audition is unpaid, and participation in any step of this process does not constitute or guarantee a contract or offer of work.

Contract and Compensation

This is a remote contract position. Compensation will be determined by the scope of work for each project.

We look forward to hearing from writers who are eager to use their theological training and communication gifts to serve pastors, church leaders, and students around the world.
