Coordinator of Volunteers to Families with Children

The development and promotion of a comprehensive program of religiouseducation to support families with children ages birth – 6th grade.

Works directly under the supervision of the Pastor and more broadlyunder the personnel committee elected by the church. This person willalso work very closely with a team of four church members who helpdevelop the vision and strategy for best meeting the needs of children(birth- 6 th grades) and their families.

Expected Weekly Hours: 15 hours (plus 192 hours for camps, VBS, etc.)

Number of Sundays Required: 48

Responsibilities: Convene regularly (monthly or more) planning meetings to learn the ideas the team hasfor best making disciples of our children. The team will serve as the guide fordetermining the timing and strategy for programs, help determine the variousleadership positions needed to fulfill the vision and assist in recruiting high qualityvolunteers to enable success. Coordinate through volunteers the children's discipleship programs including SundaySchool, discipleship training, Vacation Bible School, camps and weekday activities. Enlist, train and develop leadership for the various organizations in the preschool andchildren's area. Assess the needs of families with children and determine ways to reach out to directand extended family members. Provide childcare for church activities for which sufficient notice (1 week) has beengiven. Supervise all paid child-care personnel. Prepare, with the assistance of the team, the children's budgets. Keep up-to-date on the latest materials and methods in children's ministry. Comply with all established church policies and procedures as well as all applicablefederal and state laws. Report regularly to the pastor and/or personnel committee on successes in the ministryas well as challenges. Perform other duties as assigned by the pastor or personnel committee.

Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: A high school diploma. A college degree is preferred. At least five years of experience in working with children on staff at a church or otherchild-related position is preferred. The ability to listen and to communicate clearly, both orally and in written form. The ability to work well with others who have diverse viewpoints and ideas and buildcohesive ministry teams is critical. Willingness to serve in the background in the role of equipper to allow others to utilizetheir gifts and talents. Love and understanding of the special needs and learning styles of children required. Basic ability to use computer software, such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel, orequivalent. Ability to be able to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally as much as 50 pounds. Requires a valid driver's license in the state of Texas and safe driving history, especiallyover the past 5 years. Commitment to Biblical principles and teachings, both professionally and personally,including those spelled out in both the Personnel Policies and Procedures and the Bylawsof Southside Baptist Church. Requires passing criminal, financial, legal status and sexual misconduct backgroundchecks and drug test before and during employment.
