Job Description

Responsibilities

We’re looking for a well-rounded digital filmmaker to lead our video-content-creation efforts that support our curriculum development, marketing, and customer-success objectives. Here are the key responsibilities of the position:

  • Video storytelling & documentary-style video production: These two are the core/foundational responsibilities of the job. You must excel at them. In this role you’ll be responsible for the end-to-end development of stand-alone video stories and long-format documentary style videos that are used in our various curricula and support the efforts of our marketing and customer support objectives. This involves:
    • Identifying interviewees
    • Planning and conducting pre-interviews and interviews
    • Mining our interview database to craft new stories 
    • Coming up with story angles
    • Selecting and arranging bites (quotes) to build stories
    • Working with our Sr. Writer and Content developer to plan curriculum video content
    • Shooting & editing video content
  • Digital asset management/archiving: You will be responsible for the collecting and transferring of all digital files from memory cards to our in-house network, managing digitally archived content, and archiving non-digital legacy footage.
  • Tasks you’ll execute and/or manage
    • Contractor management: You’ll be responsible to hire and manage additional contract and part-time members of our video team (colorists, audio and lighting technicians, etc). You’ll also establish the preferred work flows for yourself and other video staff and contractors. 
    • Managing, designing and maintaining in-studio set: You will oversee the design, building and modification of our in-studio set based on each video project needs. You will budget, manage and maintain all studio pieces and upgrade or replace as needed. You will need to dress each set to portray a real life environment and light the set and background accordingly.
    • Shoot interviews at in house studio set: You will be in charge of the capture of all video and audio of all video projects shot on set. You will also oversee live streaming the shoots to stakeholders for set approvals and for their own personal monitoring. 
    • Out-of-studio shots and productions: You’ll be responsible for the planning, coordination and execution of remote shoots. You’ll be assisted by our internal admin-support team in this type of work.

 

 

  • Tasks you’ll collaborate on with our staff: 
    • Content creation: Work closely with copywriters, videographers, designers, and developers to bring creative ideas to life.
    • Video style and format selection: You’ll work with our Art Director and other content creators to identify and recommend visual styles and formats that help our materials produce intended results. Once styles are selected/agreed upon, you’ll be responsible to make sure that staff and contract videographers capture and create content in accordance with our style guides. 
    • Recommending video equipment purchases and rentals: You’ll work with our IT team to make recommendations for the purchase and rental of resources we’ll need on set and in our editing bays. 

 

Reporting

Our Lead Digital Filmmaker/Producer day-to-day responsibilities are managed by our ministry’s Operations and Program Manager. At a project-level, you’ll report to various stakeholders, working on a variety of projects, primarily serving our VP of Marketing, or our VP of Customer Success, or partnering with our Sr. Writer and Content Developer to create curriculum and training materials. Each of them will provide feedback on your annual performance review (in addition to other team members). 

 

You’re the right person for this job if …

You’re a strong storyteller with 5–7 years of experience shooting, editing, and producing films that:

  • Influence people’s thinking and attitudes with Christ-centered principles
  • Motivate people to act in ways consistent with a Christ-centered worldview
  • Match or exceed the production quality of the secular media/content people consume

 

We’d also like you to have experience:

  • Shooting and editing (Knowledge and mastery of the Adobe ecosystem is preferred (PremierPro, AfterEffects, Illustrator, etc.) )
  • Managing multiple projects at the same time
  • Hiring and managing digital creatives (videographers, editors, graphic designers, and freelance artists)
  • Producing short and long-format programming
  • Working with teams to create high-quality content

 

We’re also looking for someone who is:

  • Detailed oriented: You’ll be responsible for making sure content is polished to the appropriate degree required at each stage of the production process, before it’s reviewed by supervisors and/or stakeholders.

  • Apadative: Even the best plans need to be adjusted. We need someone who understands that and can respond well to the resulting changes

Required character

This position plays a central role in a Christian ministry, so it is important that applicants possess saving faith in Jesus Christ, actively participate in and belongs to a local church, and consistently demonstrate Christlike character (Gal. 5:22 -25, 2 Pet. 1:5 – 9, Rom. 12:6 – 21).

 

Starting salary and benefits

The salary range for this position starts at $59,500 per year.
