The Development Director takes the lead in sharing the vision and mission of Marsha's Place with our community, connecting with those who share our pro-life convictions, building and cultivating relationships with ministry partners, and planning annual fundraising events like the Night for Life and Walk for Life.

Job Description

Objectives of the position: As an ambassador of Jesus Christ, the Development Director will help Marsha's Place cultivate a community that values every human life from conception by:

  • Introducing individuals, businesses, and churches to the vision and mission of Marsha's Place, proactively working to make new connections in our community.
  • Building and cultivating relationships with donors with the aim of producing life-long partnerships.
  • Focusing on the alignment and execution of the Marsha's Place annual fundraising plan.
  • Communicating regularly with our ministry partners to share the impact of our work.
  • Managing fundraising processes and planning fundraising events.

Reports to: The Executive Director

Supervises: Volunteers at the center

Status: Exempt, Full-time (32 hrs./week)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Be a committed Christian who demonstrates a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
  • Be an active member of a local church.
  • Exhibit and articulate strong pro-life convictions and a passion for sexual integrity.
  • Agree with and be willing to uphold the Commitment of Care and Competence, Core Values, Statement of Faith, and policies of the center.
  • Have a college degree.
  • Prior experience in marketing, sales, donor development, or church ministry settings is a plus.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be a "people person" and comfortable with public speaking.
  • Skilled in donor engagement and securing gifts for ministry needs.
  • Comfortable initiating meaningful conversations about giving opportunities.
  • Be a supportive and positive member of our team, seeking to exhibit Christlikeness in relationships.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have a bachelor's or master's degree in marketing, communications, or public relations.

Essential Functions:

I. Annual Fundraising Plan

  • Execute strategic fundraising plan in partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors in these areas of philanthropic fund development: annual fund, major gifts, grants, and monthly giving.
  • Execute meaningful, personal spring and fall solicitations for the annual fund.
  • Write and submit grant applications based on program needs; assist with grant reporting and creation of annual approach calendar for foundations.
  • Lead sponsorship efforts for fundraising events.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward relationships with current and prospective donors and partners.
  • Utilize donor welcome packet to thank, inform, inspire, and engage new donors. Update annually.
  • Implement donor touch plan to develop personal relationships with new and existing donors. Daily/weekly time to be spent identifying individuals to cultivate relationships with, scheduling meetings, conducting face to face meetings, making phone calls, sending emails, handwritten notes, texts, etc.
  • Report fund development activities, projections, and results on an ongoing basis to the Executive Director to allow for evaluation and metric tracking of the fundraising program.
  • Provide monthly development updates to the Board of Directors.
  • Assist the Executive Director with other duties as assigned

II. Communications

  • Execute annual communication plan to provide consistent and meaningful information to donors, prospects, and volunteers.
  • Utilize social media and online communications, share meaningful impact stories, highlight engagement and giving opportunities.
  • Review and update organizational case statement annually to create messaging for use in internal and external communications.
  • Engage and cultivate community supporters by regularly submitting items of interest and news to local media outlets that demonstrate the impact of Marsha's Place.

III. Community Engagement

  • Elevate agency awareness and brand in the community through speaking opportunities and consistent, positive representation of the agency.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key contacts within the community; identify and pursue opportunities for engagement with groups and individuals.
  • Host site tours for groups and individuals to educate about the mission and vision of Marsha's Place.
  • Create meaningful volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups to engage with Marsha's Place through acts of service, prayer, advocacy, committee involvement, events, etc.

IV. Database Management

  • Maintain accuracy of gift (cash, noncash, and in-kind), contact, notes and interaction records in CRM and GiveSmart.
  • Maintain accuracy of volunteer records in CRM.

V. Events

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of annual fundraising events.
