Purpose of Children's and Youth Ministry:

San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church (SRVUMC) is seeking an individual who has the experience, desire, vision and competency to develop and direct programs for young children and youth. The Next Generation Ministry goal is to foster a strong education program through building relationships with ministry chairs, teachers, students, parents (including the PTA) and church leaders that strengthen the students' commitment to the church and growth in their faith in and love for Jesus Christ.

This position outline is written for one person to fill the entire spectrum of responsibilities, but the church is open to splitting the Youth and Children's department responsibilities into 2 distinct and separate jobs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and faith development to the children's and/or youth ministry members and the families.
• This includes responsibilities for weekly Sunday School programming and special events as well as being a trusted source for spiritual (Bible study, prayer, fellowship, worship), relational (community service and evangelism), organizational and administrative leadership.
• Seek to recruit, train, and supervise teachers, leaders and other volunteers to assist in the Sunday School classroom and related events on a rotating or agreed upon schedule.
• Maintain strategy for outreach, recruiting and assimilating new children, youth and

• Encourage and coordinate outreach opportunities, seasonal/ summer programs (VBS), fellowship for children, youth and families as appropriate.

Qualifications:

• College graduate with some seminary education or training in Christian education
• Spiritual maturity and high degree of moral and ethical
• Friendly, enthusiastic, and flexible team approach while working with children, youth, parents and staff members.
• Experience in working with children in a church setting – either as staff or volunteer.
