Position Summary: The Director of Children’s Ministry is responsible for leading HBC Kids, which is the children’s ministry of Hickory Bible Church. The ideal candidate would give loving care to HBC’s children as well as their parents through regular shepherding, discipleship, resourcing, training, and recruiting volunteers and leaders.
Job Qualifications:
- Character: Must possess a deep personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the teachings of Scripture as recorded in HBC’s statement of faith.
- Commitment: Passion to faithfully shepherd children and families.
- Communication: Ability to teach biblical truths in a way that is understandable, inspiring, and applicable to children.
- Competency: A bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or a related field is preferred but not required. A solid theological foundation, a commitment to ongoing personal and professional growth, and three years’ experience in children’s ministry are essential.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership and Administration
● Provide clear direction for all operations of HBC Kids and the leadership team ● Investing in and developing the leaders already in HBC Kids as well as new servants ● Recruit, vet, and schedule servants for HBC Kids to be prepared for Sundays ● Check-in at least once per year with new and ongoing servants to shepherd and aid in their development, and give them ongoing training (i.e. on teaching, security, shepherding/care, technology) throughout the year. ● Caring for new families through a ministry that is welcoming and safe for their children ● Perform background checks for servants ● Communicate with servants about weekly schedule ● Keep up with the expenditures for HBC Kids ● Set up and maintain kids rosters and the check-in system for weekly use ● Keep up with audio, visual, and technology needs in teaching areas ● Purchase and receive materials for VBS and other kids’ events ● Direct HBC Kids operations and servants on Sundays during the 9am & 11am services ● Lead childcare during Member’s Meetings and other special events ● Oversee the upkeep of HBC Kids facilities working with the Facilities and Custodial staff ● Manage the yearly planning and execution of HBC VBS
Teaching and Training ● Research, purchase, receive, and prepare curricula for monthly and weekly distributions to teachers and other servants ● Oversee teaching schedule, coordinating with other teachers and staff members ● Prepare and distribute weekly curriculum materials for kids ● Distribute weekly curriculum materials to parents via the website and email ● Teaching on a regular but not exclusive basis to both HBC Kids classes (The Gospel Project for Kids, 9am service, and Adventure Bible Club, 11am) ● Teaching to adults on an as-needed basis, e.g. parenting classes, training teachers, etc.
Other Responsibilities ● Work with Discipleship Pastor to develop the beginning of a special needs ministry to care for those with disabilities and their families/care-givers by helping them build relationships to God, each other, and our church. ● Meet with Pastor of Discipleship weekly ● Collaborate with HBC Elders, Staff, and members of the HBC congregation ● Maintain desire to be on staff and membership at HBC, fulfilling the expectations of both ● Wisdom to handle confidential and sensitive information regarding the ministry of HBC ● Any other relevant duties as needed to support the Ministry of HBC
