Director of Communications
Job DescriptionThe communications director is responsible for overseeing all communications at First Baptist Starkville at the direction of the Senior Pastor. The director will manage the communications department staff, oversee all content creation, and develop all communications strategies at First Baptist Starkville. The communications department serves as the primary content creation group at First Baptist Starkville, informing and educating its congregation and supporting its ministries.
Ministry & Administration• Strive to be a growing Christ-follower, pursuing spiritual disciplines, Godly relationships, and character.• Be mindful that you represent First Baptist Starkville in all areas of your life.• Be available to church members, local media organizations, and the community to answer questions about First Baptist Starkville's ministries, programs, and calendar of events.• Be available to ministry staff by establishing regular office hours, maintain a professional and courteous attitude, and participate in weekly staff meetings.• Design, implement, and lead project management systems for church communications.• Manage the budget for the Communications Department.• Manage the Communications Department personnel, ensuring they are developing spiritually, professionally, and performing effectively.• Manage the appropriate communications and media team members, ensuring a wide range of volunteers work towards the same end for our physical and online weekend worship services.• Develop systems and curate volunteer teams that promote spiritual discipline and engagement in our online weekend worship services.• Develop and mentor volunteer teams supporting the media ministries by enlisting, equipping, and encouraging qualified individuals to serve during our weekend worship services.• Coordinate with the Director of Technical Ministries to maintain all broadcast equipment and resources.• Assist in other areas as needed or assigned by senior ministry staff.
Experience & Knowledge Required• Four or more years of experience in communications and digital strategy.• Demonstrated experience leading creative teams and developing communication strategies.• Ability to leverage analytics and audience feedback to develop innovative content, engaging campaigns, and high-quality products.• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and Mailchimp.• Knowledge of basic website design and implementation. (Squarespace, Wix, etc.)
Essential Functions & Responsibilities• Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to establish the ethos of First Baptist Starkville and ensure that these attributes continue to develop over time and remain relevant.• Develop broad strategies to communicate the ministries and programs at First Baptist Starkville effectively.• Maintain a clear set of brand guidelines to establish a unified voice in First Baptist Starkville's communications, creating consistency in messaging from the front door to the back door.• Oversee the design of all artwork and promotional materials within the scope of the Communications Department with a high standard of creativity, excellence, and effectiveness, ensuring that First Baptist Starkville maintains an influential social media and digital marketing presence.• Support the crafting of video content for the ministries and programs at First Baptist Starkville, such as slide decks, lyrics display, weekend service video, and other story-driven or educational content.• Collaborate with the Associate Pastor of Music and Media and the Director of Technology to plan and execute First Baptist Starkville's weekend services.• Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to develop all artwork and promotional material for the sermon series at First Baptist Starkville.• Collaborate with ministry staff to ensure that the ministries and programs at First Baptist Starkville are appropriately represented and that the internal communications materials, such as wayfinding signage, forms, policies, and official documentation, maintain a professional appearance.• Utilize both modern and conventional marketing methods to establish First Baptist Starkville's brand presence in the city of Starkville and its surrounding communities, including but not limited to billboards, radio, newspaper, social media promotion, online advertising, and search engine optimization.• Cultivate relationships with local media organizations, churches, and non-profits to support community programs and cross-church ministry efforts.• Oversee the creation and development of First Baptist Starkville's website, including style, layout, and functionality.
