Director of Community Life

Job Overview

The Director of Community Life (DCL) is a devoted follower of Jesus who helps others grow as devoted followers of Jesus. The DCL is a full-time leader and developer of future leaders and a collaborative team player who builds up the life of the church family through spiritual care, leadership, and administrative skills. The DCL reports to the Lead Pastor and will collaborate with the staff team to facilitate connection and growth for the church family outside of the Sunday gathering. The DCL will have strong administrative and organizational skills that will create and sustain opportunities for the church family to be wholehearted apprentices of Jesus, practicing His way together in Columbus.

Qualities

  • Is a follower of Jesus and willing to prioritize being a part of the church family at KRBC.
  • Demonstrates a desire for personal growth and cultivating a non-anxious presence.
  • Familiar with or open to the Practicing the Way model of spiritual formation. (practicingtheway.org)
  • A self-starter who can execute tasks and find ways to improve processes and systems.
  • Capable of delegating to volunteers.
  • Capable of prioritizing responsibilities and duties based on the seasonal needs of the church.
  • Values working in a collaborative team environment and is open to giving and receiving feedback.
  • Highly organized and finds joy in bringing order.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Relational Leadership
    • Live the staff of rule of life:
      • 8-hour monthly silence and solitude during a work day.
      • Monthly meeting with a spiritual director.
      • Weekly sabbath rhythms.
    • Participate in staff prayer rhythms
    • Participate in weekly staff meetings as part of a collaborative team working on common goals.
    • Meet with the Lead Pastor monthly.
    • Cultivate relationships with church members.
    • Develop leaders through relationships, delegation, and coaching.
    • Pursue continuing education and professional development opportunities.

  • Community Life (in partnership with Lead Pastor)
    • Train and support community group leaders.
    • Counsel and care for church members.
    • Teach and/or facilitate classes.

  • Administration
    • Kids' Church:
      • Oversee a schedule for teachers and assistants.
      • Oversee Kids' Church check-in system.
      • Oversee the classrooms and equipment of the Kids' Church area.
      • Gather Kids' Church workers quarterly for celebration and training.
    • Ensure that Planning Center Online is organized and up-to-date.
    • Assimilation
      • Oversee the Sunday morning Welcome Team.
      • Oversee the pathway from visitor to member, including but not limited to welcome lunch, membership classes, baby dedications, and baptism classes.
    • Collaborate on special projects like retreats, conferences, and special events.
    • Prepare an annual budget in assigned ministry areas.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree
  • A skilled writer who can communicate well through writing.
  • Has experience with applications such as Canva, Proclaim, Planning Center Online and/or demonstrates the ability to learn new applications as needed.
