OVERVIEW

The Director of Counseling is responsible for managing the counseling needs at Grace Community Church. S/he will coordinate the caseload, referral process, procedures, records, budgets, and daily operations. S/he will work with staff, members, and attendees to coordinate counseling care for Grace attenders by referring them out to either professional or lay counselors. S/he will occasionally provide counseling for Grace attendees and be available to help staff with counseling issues that may arise in their ministry. S/he will provide workshops for Grace’s staff and leaders on various counseling-related topics.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Build, train, and supervise lay counselors using the Stephen’s ministry model
  • Process, manage and coordinate requests for counseling, assessing the need and referring to professional or lay counselors.
  • Create, maintain and develop policies, procedures and systems for processing counseling requests in order to provide care that is scalable.
  • Manage a small counseling caseload of Grace attendee clients
  • Coordinate with counseling agencies for the use of counseling rooms
  • Conduct and assist with workshops/seminars that train and educate staff and lay counseling leaders.
  • Assist the pastoral team and other directors with navigating various counseling situations by being a resource.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES

  • Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  • Experience: 2+ years of counseling experience; nonprofit experience preferred
  • Equipped and experienced in responding in crises
  • Equipped and experienced in interacting with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Strong listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Organized with the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficient with technology, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Multilingual preferred

SCHEDULE

  • 1x Per Week – Meet with Care and Counseling Pastor
  • 1x Per Week – Attend the weekly All Staff Meetings on Tuesday mornings
  • 1x Per Week – Attend the weekly All Staff Prayer Pause
  • 1x Per Year – Participate in the All-Staff Retreat, typically in June
  • Christmas Eve + Easter Sunday Gatherings
  • As Needed – Initiate / attend project specific meetings

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to the Care and Counseling Pastor
  • Works closely with the Care and Counseling Coordinator
