Director of Global Ministry and Education

Job Overview

This role carries with is many pastoral responsibilities and it is our hope that whoever fills this position will eventually go on to serve as a pastor/elder at Peninsula Community Chapel once they served long enough to be assessed and affirmed by the church membership.

The Director of Global Ministry and Education will oversee our Global Ministry and Discipleship classes. He shall also assist the pastors in carrying out the ministry of the church through teaching, preaching, counseling, visitation, and welcoming new guests to the church.

The position will become available starting in June of 2024 after the current Global Ministry Pastor retires. As an active and committed member and lay leader, he will be available to help train the new team member.

Time commitments

  1. Doing ministry/preparing for ministry: forty hours a week, off on Saturday and one day during week, except for emergencies and special occasions
  2. Participating in meetings/training: five hours minimum a week

 

Primary Responsibilities / Duties Related to Global Ministry

  1. Serve on the Global Ministry Team (GMT) and Global Leadership Team (GLT) Executive Sub-Committee
    1. Work closely with the GMT Chairperson to ensure that PCC’s strategic plan and vision are pursued through our Global Ministry
    2. Stay abreast of and evaluate trends affecting global ministry and the local church
    3. Help develop and implement short- and long-range goals with our Global Ministry Team
    4. Identify, develop, and raise up new lay leaders to serve with the Global Ministry Team and Task Forces
    5. Help to oversee, empower, and equip Global Ministry Task Forces to mobilize the congregation to engage in strategic cross-cultural ministry
    6. Help identify, approve, equip, and evaluate short-term trips to support the work of our Global Ministry Partners
    7. Help identify, train, evaluate, send out Global Ministry Partners (GMPs) in order to fulfill the Great Commission in strategic ways
  2. Lead in the planning, organizing and implementation of Global Ministry activities and events, particularly our semiannual Global Ministry Conferences
  3. Mobilize the whole congregation for Global Ministry through teaching, preaching, one-on-one discipleship and training
  4. Challenge, motivate and recruit others for involvement in Global Ministry.
    1. Identify, develop, and counsel potential Global Ministry Partners in the church.
    2. Coordinate and integrate global ministry throughout all church ministries and age groups.
    3. Encourage and facilitate designated giving to Global Ministry. This involves raising the value of Global Ministry within the church to increase financial and prayer commitment.
    4. Develop prayer support for Global Ministry Partners and unreached peoples.
  5. Provide oversight and pastoral care for church supported Global Ministry Partners.
    1. Ensure active communication between GMPs and the church.
    2. Work with the Member Care Task Force to ensure excellent care for GMPs on field and in reentry.
    3. Integrate Global Ministry into the life of the congregation through Home Groups.
    4. Visit Primary GMPs on field whenever appropriate and encourage pastors and trained member care volunteers to visit GMPs.
  6. Facilitate Global Ministry projects and short-term trips. These will normally be initiated by task forces, trip leaders, and GMPs.
  7. Serve as a member of the staff team.
  8. Lead efforts to cooperate with the consortium and other churches in mobilizing our churches for Global Ministry. Connect with staff from other churches and organizations who are similarly focused on Global Ministry.

 

Primary Responsibilities / Duties Related to Discipleship Classes

  1. Develop and implement a scope and sequence for discipleship classes that is in alignment with PCC’s Mission Statement, 5-Year Strategic Plan, and Yearly Prayer & Action Goals
  2. Recruit, train, and develop men and women as discipleship class teachers
  3. Promote discipleship classes among the church body
