Job Overview

The Director of Missions and Outreach provides spiritual leadership and strategic oversight for all local, national, and international outreach initiatives at St. Luke Church. This role exists to mobilize the church to live missionally – sharing the love of Christ through acts of justice, compassion, and evangelism. The Director will build and maintain mission partnerships, coordinate outreach events and trips, and equip the congregation to actively engage in service both within and beyond the church walls.

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive missions strategy aligned with the church's vision and Wesleyan theology.
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Missions Committee, guiding them in discerning mission priorities and initiatives, and working with them to implement programs and events.
  • Collaborate with staff and lay leaders to integrate missions into discipleship, worship, and church life.
  • Oversee and support local outreach initiatives (e.g., St. Luke Outreach Center, Samaritan Fund, Food Pantry, SAW Ministry, Meals on Wheels).
  • Plan and oversee domestic and international mission trips.
  • Cultivate relationships with ecumenical (other?) mission organizations/efforts (e.g., Open Door, Truth Spring Academy, M2540, and/or other food assistance, mentoring programs, homeless ministries, community partnerships).
  • Develop a Disaster Response plan for local relief efforts and a partnership(s) for national/international relief (e.g., Samaritan's Purse).
  • Recruit, equip, and empower volunteers to lead and participate in mission efforts.
  • Offer training for mission trip teams and local outreach leaders.
  • Foster a culture where every member sees themselves as a missionary in daily life.
  • Develop and manage the missions and outreach budget in partnership with the Missions Committee, staff, and church leadership, ensuring good stewardship and financial transparency.
  • Ensure compliance with risk management policies, including travel safety and child protection protocols.
  • Maintain communication, including regular reports and updates, to church leadership, the congregation, and mission partners.
  • Collaborate with communications staff to promote mission opportunities through newsletters, social media, website, and worship announcements.
  • Share stories of impact to inspire and inform the congregation.
  • Coordinate special events (e.g., Mission Sundays/Midweek, Missions Fair) to highlight mission efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Possesses a strong and growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ, exhibiting a Christ-like attitude in words and actions, and a passion for mission and outreach.
  • Bachelor's degree required; theological education or ministry training preferred.
  • 3–5 years of experience in mission leadership or nonprofit program coordination.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Effective communicator with cross-cultural sensitivity and a servant-hearted approach.
  • Is committed to the values and vision of St. Luke Church to "guide people in a broken and distracted world to know, love and follow Jesus."
  • Is team-oriented; able to work with large teams of volunteers.
  • Has excellent organizational, advance planning, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed.
