Director of Operations – Christ the King Lutheran Church

Position Title: Director of Operations

Reports to: Mission and Vision Leadership Board

25-29 hours/week, but will be combined with the Finance Manager position for full-time employment.

Position Overview

Work closely with the Mission and Vision Leadership Board (MVLB) and Senior Pastor to provide effective leadership and management in the areas of ministry funding, administration, human resources, and risk management. Promote effective day-to-day organization, operation and administration of the congregation.

Qualifications

B.A. degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, or similar area.

Specific experience in leadership and supervision, organizational planning, accounting, communication, and service in a Christian church.

Has demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills, approachability, teamwork, dedication, flexibility, initiative, and is well-organized. Has a passion for the mission and ministry of Christ the King.

Practicing Christian; Agrees with Christ the King's confession of faith and policies listed in its Constitution (such as Article 4) and Bylaws (such as section 8.1a).

Responsibilities

Supervision

  • Supervise Facilities Manager and Custodians
  • Along with the Senior Pastor, Supervise the Director of Early Learning Center
  • Supervision tasks include planning, communicating duties and performance indicators, problem prevention and solving, leading effective meetings, giving feedback, offering support, and conducting annual performance reviews

Ministry Funding

  • Work closely with the Senior Pastor, MVLB, Finance Manager, and Treasurer to develop the Ministry Funding Plan, including cash flow, monthly budgets
  • Establish solid accounting policies and procedures
  • Oversee tax filings, payroll, accounts receivable and payable
  • Oversee and promote the Endowment, Dedicated Funds, Gifts, Bequests, Benevolence and oversee their distribution
  • Conduct strategic planning to ensure sound financial condition of the congregation

Administration

  • Oversee day to day operations of the congregation
  • Keep the church Constitution and Bylaws current and in compliance with synodical, state, and federal guidelines
  • Give monthly reports to the MVLB; prepare reports to Northwest District; other reports as needed
  • Produce clear financial statements
  • Adhere to applicable local, state, and federal laws

Human Resources

  • Maintain the Employee Manual; ensure its compliance with employee regulations for the church and Early Learning Center staff
  • Oversee benefits and compensation for all congregation positions
  • Handle employee grievances
  • Work with MVLB Personnel Committee to maintain job descriptions for staff positions
  • Ensure positions under Director of Operations are receiving annual evaluations

Risk Management

  • Protect the congregation's real and intellectual assets and manage insurance
  • Protect the public image and reputation of the congregation, MVLB, and staff
  • Protect the congregation, MVLB, and staff from claims of liability

Salary is dependent upon education and experience

Retirement and paid time off benefits included

May require work on occasional nights and weekends

Physical requirements include using ladders, stairs, and power tools, as well as moving objects of 30 pounds.

Note: this position has the option to start before September 1, 2025
