Director of Operations Job Description
Position: Director of Operations Reports to: Executive Director Location: Raleigh, NC (Local hybrid; remote possible for exceptional candidates) Status: Full-time
About HCS
Hope Counseling Services (HCS) exists to care for souls through biblical counseling, equipping individuals, families, and communities to walk in Christlike transformation. We are a faith-driven organization committed to excellence in counseling, administration, and ministry, and we are seeking a Director of Operations to help us expand our impact.
Position Summary
The Director of Operations (DO) ensures that HCS runs efficiently, smoothly, and in alignment with our mission. This role is primarily executional and tactical, overseeing day-to-day operations, administrative systems, and special projects, freeing the Executive Director to focus on leadership, vision, counselor development, and strategic partnerships. The ideal candidate is highly organized, relational, and excited to work in a faith-based ministry context.
Culture and Personality Fit
The ideal candidate is a doer and implementer: someone who finds deep satisfaction in making things run smoothly, translating ideas into action, and keeping systems, people, and projects aligned with our mission. You don't need to be a counselor, but you do need to care deeply about people and the spiritual work behind what we do.
You'll work closely with our Executive Director, who is strategic and relationally focused. Your role will complement his strengths by ensuring our operations, communication, and logistics are dependable, efficient, and scalable.
We're looking for someone who is:
- Mission-aligned: You're motivated by ministry impact, not just efficiency. You care about people and see operational excellence as a form of service.
- Operationally gifted: You love details, systems, and processes—and you follow through until the work is done.
- Proactive and dependable: You anticipate needs and take ownership without needing to be micromanaged.
- Collaborative but decisive: You work well alongside others, but you can also make confident, wise decisions when delegated authority.
- Organized and steady: You bring calm structure and consistency to a fast-moving environment.
- Flexible and pragmatic: You're comfortable wearing multiple hats and finding creative solutions in a small nonprofit setting.
- Relationally intelligent: You communicate clearly, handle sensitive information with discretion, and value unity across the team.
- Growth-minded: You seek to improve systems and outcomes while respecting established processes and leadership structures.
