Director of Student Ministries

Job Overview

The Director is responsible for the overall growth and development of the student ministry and young adult ministry. The Director will work with Pastoral Staff and Elders to cast vision and develop strategies to effectively come alongside parents to raise their teens and encourage their young adults to know Christ and grow in Him.

Job Description

Reports To: The Director of Student Ministries will report directly to the Pastor of Discipleship and is under the care and oversight of the Board of Elders. This job description does not supersede the BFC Faith & Order which places authority and primary care for oversight of the church in the hands of Elders (F&O 203-1, F&O 204-2.1 – 204-2.2). Responsibilities: Student Ministry

  • Oversee all Student Ministry meetings and events.
  • Oversee the vision casting and goal setting for the Student Ministries.
  • Be the primary teacher of the youth Sunday School class & Wednesday evening meetings Sept. – May.
  • Recruit and train adult volunteers who give a clear and credible testimony of faith, and who are godly role models.
  • Hold regular leader meetings to collaborate & keep leaders informed with what’s happening in youth ministry. Utilize adult leaders to help plan and execute events.
  • Select and train student leaders who give a clear and credible testimony of faith, and who are godly role models to their peers.
  • Develop and implement discipleship strategies for the students in keeping with the purpose and philosophy of the FBFC.
  • Oversee the discipleship of new believers among the students.
  • Develop and implement evangelism strategies for the students in keeping with the purpose and philosophy of the FBFC.
  • Maintain close working relationships with the parents.
  • Participate in regional student associations to provide primary link to community efforts.
  • Participate in BFC denominational student activities (ex: Sno-Glo).
  • Make an annual report of the Student Ministries to the congregation.
  • Keep an accurate record of the Student Ministries budget.
  • Coordinate and work with other ministries to encourage student involvement in the life of FBFC.
  • Devote about 90% of ministry week to Student Ministry.

Young Adult’s Ministry

  • Oversee the vision casting and goal setting for the Young Adult Ministries.
  • Provide oversight and care for young adults in the church.
  • Pray for them and encourage them by communicating with them on a regular basis.
  • Lead a consistent and regular Bible study.
  • Have consistent and regular fellowship events with the goal of building godly relationships.
  • Develop and implement discipleship strategies for the young adults in keeping with the purpose and philosophy of the FBFC.
  • Oversee the discipleship of new believers among young adults, facilitating assimilation into the great body of FBFC.
  • Participate and/or cooperate with regional BFC denominational young adult associations to provide primary link to community efforts.
  • Make an annual report of the Young Adult Ministry to the congregation.
  • Keep an accurate record of the Young Adult Ministry budget.
  • Devote about 10% of ministry week to Young Adult Ministry.

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly staff meeting and meet weekly with the Pastor of Discipleship.
  • Provide a report as needed or requested to the Board of Elders or Pastoral Relations Committee.
  • Model a heart for the lost by personally identifying and interacting with those who need the Lord. Emphasize and encourage personal evangelism among the congregation.
  • Participate in the corporate worship service as gifted, and as directed by pastoral staff.

Results: The Student and Young Adult Ministries are done with biblical excellence all to the glory of God and the edification of His church. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is made clear in word and deed from all who serve in the student and young adult ministries. A healthy partnership in the gospel with parents is evident. Although salvation is totally dependent on the Spirit, a healthy ministry to students and Young adults will result in salvation and steady spiritual growth.

Hours & Compensation:

  • This is a part-time, hourly position with a maximum of 25 hours per week.
  • An expense account would be provided to cover mileage expenses, professional development and conferences, contacts, subscriptions, dues, books and resources.

Minimum Requirements:

  • In agreement with the BFC Faith & Order, and in alignment with FBFC philosophy of ministry and discipleship.
  • Preferred minimum of 3-5 years of ministry experience.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma and prefer to have or working toward 3-years of theological training or its equivalent.
