Job Summary: The Director of Students is responsible for cultivating the unwavering hope of Jesus in teens and parents in and around the community of Athens, GA by bringing the gospel to bear on their lives through relationships, ministry programming, teaching, events, and service to the community.
Offices from: Church Office (private office available; work from anywhere freedom)
Time: Full-time, salaried, individual benefits.
Job Qualifications:
- The Director of Students will be a person of outstanding character: one who pursues Christ and who consistently reflects the truth of the gospel in relationships and behavior.
- The Director of Students will have an entrepreneurial spirit, eager to strategically try new methods and ministry ideas that lead to a robust community of students growing in Christ.
- The Director of Students will be properly equipped as a visionary and strategic leader who places a high value on relationships and grasps the role such relationships play in discipling and equipping others.
- The Director of Students will possess exceptional executive functioning skills while being warm, approachable, and relational to people of all ages and all backgrounds (ethnicity, socio-economic status, etc.).
- The Director of Students will mesh with a staff team that is relational, fun, hard-working, gospel-centered, professional, and enjoys one another in the work in which they are called.
- The Director of Students will mesh with a church that is modern in worship, moderately traditional in organizational structure, and multi-generational in composition. The Director of Students will mesh with a congregation that loves the city into which it has been placed and which is dominated by the University of Georgia.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree required. Masters degree in ministry, theology, education, leadership or similar preferred..
Experience:
- Some experience with kids ministry required (teaching, camps, church programming, etc.).
Skills/Qualities:
- Strong servant-leadership skills, capable of casting vision, inspiring kids and parents as well as volunteers to serve and participate
- An entrepreneurial spirit, eager to see and lead others in a robust kids ministry.
- Savvy with cloud-based software (i.e. Planning Center), project management tools (i.e. Asana), social media management tools (i.e., Meta), AI tools (i.e. COPY AI), and MS Office suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for individual training, vision casting, ministry implementation, and spiritual encouragement for others
- Able to disciple, minister to, and pray with those needing care and support
- Relational skills to engage and encourage people of all ages
- Exceptional administration, organizational and management skills for ministry oversight
- Motivational skills to inspire others to serve with vision, energy, and excellence
- Ability to oversee and train members for service in a wide variety of ministry areas
- Team and collaboration skills to work with the church leadership, staff, and ministry team volunteers
Job Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities are largely associated with the current strategy in place, but may not be fully representative of the exact responsibilities that result from the Director of Students' vision and leadership.
- Create and execute a comprehensive student ministry strategy within the context of the church's vision, values, strategies, outcomes, and mission statement.
- Recruit, equip, and empower volunteers for Sunday morning life groups for students (groups meet at 11 currently, during the second service)
- Recruit, equip, and empower volunteers for Wednesday night ministry programming for students (Recreation, worship, and groups currently make up our existing ministry model).
- Mobilize and train volunteers and leaders for other ministry opportunities (camps, retreats, local mission projects, national and international missions, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned.
Accountability:
The Director of Students will:
- Serve under the supervision of the Lead Pastor and Personnel Committee.
- Attend a monthly "all in" staff meeting.
- Attend weekly tactical ministry team meetings.
- Attend strategic ministry team meetings as scheduled.
- Attend monthly 1-on-1 meetings with the Lead Pastor.
