Job Overview

Christ Covenant (PCA) is a reformed congregation in Knoxville, Tennessee. The vision of Christ Covenant is to be a church that equips everyone to be uncompromising in truth and unwavering in love. Its mission is to reach and equip people of all ages to follow Jesus by knowing the truth, loving one another, and serving people everywhere.

The worship services are a blend of new worship songs and older traditional hymns played in a modern tune. There is a worship band with various instruments and a seasonal worship choir.

The Director of Worship & Arts needs to be a specialist in worship. He is responsible to plan, supervise, and direct the entire worship ministry at Christ Covenant. There must be a great desire to blend both excellence as well as heartfelt worship throughout this ministry along with a long-term attitude of openness to clearly meeting worship objectives.

  • A committed follower of Jesus who regularly engages in spiritual disciplines
  • Bachelors in music performance
  • At least 5-7 years of experience
  • A team player who can manage staff and a large number of volunteers
  • Will become a member of Christ Covenant and agree to its theology
  • Can write music for different instrumental and vocal parts
  • Able to conduct a choir and small orchestra

 

Job Description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Worship & Arts Leadership

  • Plan with the Lead Pastor the long-range and weekly worship ministry.
  • To facilitate a worship leadership team that helps prepare and execute the music and other worship elements for Sunday worship and special events.
  • To lead the worship team band, facilitating worship rehearsals.
  • To recruit, direct, and develop musicians & vocalists who share in leadership in the worship services.
  • To lead the worship team choir, facilitating rehearsals.
  • To recruit, direct, and develop the worship choir volunteers.
  • To plan special musical events during the year, especially during important seasons, such as Christmas and Easter.
  • To lead/assist in leading worship at funerals, weddings, or other special events for members of our congregation.
  • To recruit and train a cohort of worship ministry interns, preparing them for church planting opportunities.
  • To help Student Ministries Director and Middle School Director in teaching and training youth vocalists and musicians and their worship bands.
  • To plan, recruit volunteers, and execute at least six Sunday night special services per year, with the potential of more services.
  • To maintain a level of excellence in musical skills.

Supervision of Volunteers & Staff

  • To supervise the Sound Technician, ensuring all musical and related equipment is up-to-date and volunteers are trained.
  • To work with the Director of Production & Design, ensuring technology is used effectively on Sunday mornings.
  • To work with the Director of Children’s Ministry, helping them recruit volunteers for their annual music camp and children’s choir.

General Responsibilities

  • To serve on the staff leadership team.
  • To attend monthly staff meetings.
  • To oversee all areas related to Sunday morning worship: calendar, event coordination, etc.
    • To stay abreast of trends in worship which includes talking with other churches and attending worship conferences for spiritual and musical growth.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Director of Worship & Arts is directly accountable to the Lead Pastor for day-to-day performance, and to the Session for performance related to the Principal Function.

HOURS:

Primarily regular office hours Monday through Thursday. However, because of the demands of the job, the Director of Worship & Arts will find it necessary to spend many hours in attendance at various meetings outside of normal hours. Therefore, by agreement of the Lead Pastor, the Director of Worship & Arts will be allowed to maintain a flexible office schedule.
