Director of Youth

About Us:

First Baptist Church of Lancaster (https://fbclancastersc.org/home ) is centrally located in the city of Lancaster, SC, in one of the fastest growing counties in the state. The church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention and dedicated to glorifying God through worship, discipleship, and community outreach. The church presently has a small but active youth group with many children to be promoted into the program soon.

Position Description

FBCL is seeking an enthusiastic, and energetic baptized believer in Jesus Christ to disciple youth. The Youth Director will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading all aspects of our youth program (grades 6-12) under the direction of the Pastor and in coordination with the Youth Committee. The successful candidate must have a passion to serve youth as a mission of love, and be able to guide teenagers in their spiritual growth and faith, through Wednesday night activities, Sunday school and worship service, and through participation in occasional missions trips and retreats.

This role is ideal for someone who is called to disciple youth while balancing other vocational or personal commitments. The position is supported by a small but loving church and allows the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young people.

This role requires Wednesday evenings, Sunday mornings and some weekends, for an average of 10 hours per week. It also includes at least one youth trip, usually 1 week in length. It is part-time or bi-vocational salaried position paying $10,000 per year.

Youth Discipleship and Christian Education Responsibilities

1. Guide youth in their spiritual growth in Jesus Christ, by developing their faith, voicing their belief, being baptized, sharing their faith, and participating in missions trips.

2. In partnership of the Youth Committee, plan organize and lead regular youth ministry activities, including Sunday School, Wednesday evening programming, occasional mission projects and an annual youth retreat.

3. In partnership with the Youth Committee, develop a comprehensive strategy to grow the youth program of FBCL through discipleship, fellowship, and evangelism.

4. Form relationships with the youth, their parents/guardians, and the families of the church and communicate with them regarding church involvement and participation in youth activities.

5. Serve as the point of contact for and communicate with the Lancaster community on behalf of FBCL's youth program, and serve as the primary speaker for youth events as needed.

6. Serve as the primary leader and organizer for youth events and trips, as planned.

7. Recruit and guide adult volunteers to serve as chaperones and activity participants for efficient implementation of planned programs and activities

8. Implement policies and procedures that assure the safety of all participants.

9. Support youth and their families in seeking outside resources when needed.

Staff Responsibilities

1. Work under direction of the Pastor and in partnership with the Youth Committee.

2. Maintain appropriate office hours to be available for youth and their parents.

3. Attend staff meetings and work with the other church staff in program development.

4. Attend regular Youth Committee meetings (as scheduled).

5. Attend Deacon's meetings and Church Council meetings when requested.

6. Meet with the Youth Committee annually to present a strategic plan, calendar of events, budget, and fundraising requests for their approval. They will in turn present this to the Deaconate and Finance Committee for church approval.

7. Manage expenses for the youth program in a fiscally responsible manner.

8. Serve as a staff representative on assigned committees, if necessary.

9. Provide hospital, crisis and prospects visitations as needed, when available.

10. Maintain personal devotions and take advantage of opportunities for professional development in youth direction and ministry, when possible.

11. Follow all established policies and procedures as directed by the church, and seek guidance from the Pastor or Youth Committee when in doubt.

12. Other duties as assigned by Pastor.

Required Qualifications

1. A baptized believer in Jesus Christ

2. Must successfully pass a required background check

3. Enthusiasm for working with youth

4. Exhibit an understanding of teenagers' developmental needs

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in working with youth

2. An energetic and charismatic personality that inspires the youth

3. Exhibit an understanding of youth ministry models

5. Resident of Lancaster County

6. College educated

7. A willingness to join the church
