Position Summary The director of West Side (WS) Youth is a key leader at Redeemer West Side, overseeing West Side Youth Ministry and providing discipleship opportunities for High School (HS) and Middle School (MS) students and parents. This person works closely with the Sr. Director for Families and other pastoral team members on pastoral care efforts. The director develops the church's future ministries for families, adapted to the distinctive center-city life. WS Youth is a unique program that serves as a thriving youth ministry home base for multiple churches, with a vision to become the most fruitful youth ministry in the city.

Job Description Youth Ministry

  • Vision | Develop and implement a vision for discipleship of youth through young adulthood, in coordination with the Sr. Director of Families and under the direction of the Executive Pastor
  • Youth | Active leadership of WS Youth to become the most fruitful youth ministry in Manhattan
  1. Develop vision, programming, and curriculum that is gospel-centered, joyful, and outward-facing
  2. Create a vibrant community among the youth, looking out for those on the margins
  3. Supervise a team of WS Youth staff and possibly interns
  4. Recruit, train, galvanize, and retain volunteers
  5. Teach regularly and disciple students
  6. Plan and lead retreats and service/mission opportunities
  7. Gather new students from outside Redeemer
  • Families/Parents | Design and implement support to families of MS and HS students in collaboration with the other pastoral staff. Engage and equip parents to help their kids follow Jesus amid cultural pressures. Provide counsel to parents about caring for their children.
  • Integration | Lead our entire congregation in a vision to fulfill their baptismal vows to support parents in the Christian nurture of their teen children.
Pastoral Care
  • Pastoral support | Care, counseling, and discipleship, with special emphasis on families.
  • Evangelism | Outreach and evangelism to the broader neighborhood, welcoming students and others who have questions about Christianity.
Pastoral leadership and development
  • Staff | Actively participate in staff gatherings
  • Devotion | Consistent prayer, individually and as staff
  • Worship | Lead Sunday worship as needed [possibly preach if ordained]
  • Session and Presbytery | Attend and participate in Session/Presbytery meetings [if ordained]

Qualifications
  • Aligned with the core theological principles of Redeemer West Side and the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), including the Westminster Confession.
  • If ordained, credentials are in the PCA or able to be ordained in the PCA.
  • If not, able to be examined under similar qualifications.
  • Undergraduate degree required. Plus, a Master's Degree in ministry, theology, or a related field.
  • Passion for and 3-5+ years of experience leading ministries for youth, children, and families.
  • Energetic, fun, outgoing, and able to draw youth.
  • Strong gathering ability to take the initiative to recruit volunteers.
  • Previous experience building systems and setting programming.
  • Wisdom and discernment to advise on complex family dynamics and issues.
  • Able to navigate and affirm a city-positive approach to ministry in New York City.
  • Must be a dependable team player and self-starter.
  • Engaging, encouraging, experienced, and wise in individual pastoral responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to navigate interpersonal relationships.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Work hours are generally flexible on certain days, yet must be available for regular evening and weekend meetings. In-person most days and remote some days.
  • Proficient in GSuite (Google Docs, etc.) and messaging and project software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and interface with other ministries and congregations.
  • Agreement with Redeemer West Side staff policies, including the intellectual property policy.
