Director of Youth Ministry
Job Summary:The primary role of the Director of Youth Ministry is to introduce young people to Christ, disciple them in spiritual growth, and equip them to serve Christ. The Director of Youth Ministry also equips parents/guardians to disciple their children. The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for providing planning, promoting and coordinating assistance and direction for all education and activities for grades six-twelve. This will include the planning and implementation of weekly GenLight meetings as well as special youth events and programs designed to keep students engaged more than one day per week. Ministry Purpose: To proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach the truth and inerrancy of the Bible, to promote the building of students' Christian worldview, and to implement planning the administrative aspects of Youth Ministry and services to the church and community. Service Relationships: The Director of Youth Ministry reports to the Senior Pastor Job Type: Part time position based on 20-25 hours per week Compensation: Competitive annual salary based upon education and experience Primary Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Lead and organize effective programs for youth that combine fellowship, worship, biblical teaching, discipleship, and evangelism
- Integrate the mission and vision of RiverWind Church into youth ministry goals and activities
- Recruit, train, and shepherd all GenLight/Youth Ministry volunteers
- Be an active presence in local high schools with periodic visits to engage students at schools
- Plan and execute services for youth that are biblically accurate, culturally relevant, and energy-filled (ex. GenLight)
- Educate, encourage, and facilitate youth participation in church-wide community outreach initiatives
- Provide counseling and spiritual direction to youth on a regular, individual basis
- Collaborate with pastoral staff/ministry leaders to support parents in effectively fulfilling their Christian parenting roles and duties
- Provide weekly ministry reports to Senior Pastor
Administrative
- Create and manage a youth ministry calendar that drives all events, activities, and teaching within the ministry
- Select (under the advice of the Elders) and implement the overall youth curriculum plan for the church for a balanced comprehensive Christian education to Students
- Assist in developing the annual youth ministry budget and provide responsible stewardship of the budget
- Maintain contact with students and parents to keep them informed of events and activities and maintain a ministry strategy that encourages involvement
- Coordinate and oversee student and family events aimed at both ministering to church membership as well as those in the surrounding community
- Implement and maintain communication with parents, volunteers and the larger community through various forms of media (e.g. social media, email, website, etc.)
Strengths and Skillset:
- Exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God and a teachable spirit
- A love and passion for young people, evangelism and outreach
- Formal theological training from a credible theological institution preferred
- 1-2 years experience in a lead teaching role preferred
- Experience in leading and developing healthy ministry
- Excellent relational skills to communicate with students and parents
- Willingness to relate to the unique needs of teenagers in today's culture
- Self-motivated in networking and relationship building
- Team player and willing to assist other ministry leaders/staff when needed
- A member of the Riverwind Church or willing and able to become a member
