Discipleship and Family Pastor

Job Description: Pastor of Discipleship & FamilyPosition OverviewThe Pastor of Discipleship & Family will serve as a key shepherd within the church, responsible for equipping believers for spiritual maturity, caring for families, and discipling the next generation. This role requires a strong theological foundation, a shepherd's heart, and the ability to teach God's Word faithfully while fostering family and youth ministry. The Pastor of Discipleship & Family will report directly to the Lead Pastor and work collaboratively with the church staff, elders, and volunteers.

Primary ResponsibilitiesTheological Teaching & Preaching

Provide theologically robust preaching and teaching in alignment with the church's doctrinal commitments.Preach in the Sunday morning service approximately once a month (or as assigned).Assist in leading Bible studies, discipleship classes, or training opportunities to strengthen theological depth among members.Youth & Family Discipleship

Provide weekly teaching and care for the youth (middle school and high school).Collaborate with the Lead Pastor to share responsibilities for youth ministry (teaching, events, mentoring).Equip parents to be the primary disciplers of their children, offering resources and training for family discipleship at home.Organize youth gatherings, retreats, and mission/service opportunities that build gospel maturity and community.Marriage & Family Counseling

Offer biblical counseling for marriages, parents, and families throughout the week.Develop preventative care ministries (premarital counseling, parenting classes, marriage enrichment events).Walk alongside families in times of crisis with gospel-centered care.Train and resource lay leaders to help carry out counseling and family care in the church.

Other DutiesAssist in pastoral care, visitation, and church-wide discipleship initiatives.Support and participate in the overall vision and mission of the church.Attend staff meetings, elder meetings (as appropriate), and leadership retreats.Shepherd volunteers and ministry leaders within youth and family ministries.

QualificationsClear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and commitment to personal spiritual growth.Master of Divinity (MDiv) from an accredited evangelical seminary (required).Reformed in soteriology and in agreement with the Abstract of Principles and the Baptist Faith & Message 2000.A committed congregationalist in ecclesiology, valuing the role of the local church in governance and mission.Strong theological and biblical teaching ability with a track record of faithful expository ministry.Experience in youth ministry, discipleship, and family care.Training or experience in biblical counseling (ACBC or equivalent preferred).Relational, approachable, and gifted in equipping others for ministry.

Three Core PrioritiesTheological Robustness – Capable of faithful, doctrinally sound preaching and teaching (including Sunday morning preaching monthly).Youth Discipleship – Shepherding, teaching, and mentoring youth weekly while partnering with the Lead Pastor in shaping the next generation.Marriage & Family Care – Providing ongoing biblical counseling and discipleship for families, strengthening marriages and equipping parents.
