Cornerstone Church is located in beautiful Bluffton, South Carolina and is a non-denominational, gospel-rich, Bible-teaching church that exists to lead people into a life changing relationship with Jesus. Our church family is experiencing rapid growth with an average attendance just under 900 in 2024. We offer wonderful ministries for all ages and stages, as well as vibrant local and global outreach partnerships.

With our growth comes expansion and we are anticipating breaking ground on our new 55,000+ square foot facility that is situated on a picturesque 39-acre main campus with a lagoon, sports fields and walking trails. In addition, we are launching new locations in our region with Hilton Head Island targeted as our next campus launch by the end of 2025. We are looking for someone who wants to join a rapidly growing church and can help prepare us to more than double in size in the next few years. 

We are seeking a gifted and experienced individual to join this team as the Discipleship Pastor. The Discipleship Pastor will play a key role in nurturing spiritual growth, fostering community, and facilitating discipleship pathways within our church family. They will oversee our various discipleship strategies, including Rooted, small groups, care groups and courses, with the aim of equipping and empowering individuals to deepen their relationship with Christ and live out their faith in meaningful ways. WE’RE LOOKING FOR A PERSON WHO…

• Senses God’s calling to invest their life in making disciples who make disciples.
• Demonstrates character consistent with the ideals the New Testament lays out in texts like 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9.
• Proven competent in personal disciple-making and leading a team in disciple-making.
• Resonates with the vision and culture of Cornerstone Church.
• Shows potential for relational chemistry with the existing leadership team.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Leadership and Vision:
  • Provide visionary leadership for the discipleship ministry, aligning it with the overall mission and values of the church.
  • Develop and communicate a clear discipleship strategy that promotes spiritual growth, maturity, and multiplication.
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to integrate discipleship initiatives into the overall church ministry.

• Oversee Rooted:
  • Serve as the primary overseer of Rooted, a foundational discipleship experience aimed at connecting participants with God, the church, and their purpose in the world.
  • Recruit, train, and support Rooted facilitators to ensure the effective implementation of the program.
  • Evaluate and refine the Rooted curriculum and structure to enhance participant engagement and spiritual transformation.

• Groups Ministry:
  • Oversee a comprehensive small groups ministry that provides opportunities for deeper community, spiritual growth, and care.
  • Recruit, train, and shepherd small group leaders and coaches, equipping them to facilitate meaningful and transformative group experiences.
  • Implement strategies to increase group participation and ensure the health and vitality of existing groups.
  • Create and lead a team of specific volunteer-led adult ministries including Mens, Womens, Young Adults, and Sr. Adult Ministries in the execution of aligned discipleship strategies.
  • Support and resource the Care Groups of the church which includes Recovery Alive, Celebrate Recovery, and Grief Share.

• Courses and Workshops:
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of discipleship courses, workshops, and equipping events on topics relevant to spiritual growth and Christian living.
  • Partner with our Next Gen team to train and equip families.
  • Identify and partner with qualified instructors and resource providers to offer diverse learning opportunities for church members.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of courses and workshops, soliciting feedback and making adjustments as needed to meet the evolving needs of the congregation.

• Care and Support:
  • Provide pastoral care, guidance, and support to individuals and families participating in discipleship programs, offering spiritual counsel and prayer as needed.
  • Manage and execute the follow-up process including orchestrating personal follow-up leading the New Believers course.
  • Manage and execute logistics for all baptisms at Cornerstone.
  • Active shepherd’s heart demonstrated in facilitating weddings, memorials, and congregational care.

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:

• A committed follower of Jesus Christ with a passion for discipleship and spiritual formation.
• A bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, or a related field (theological education preferred).
• Previous experience in ministry, preferably within the realm of disciple-making, or other related roles within a church setting. Familiarity with Rooted is a plus.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills, with the ability to recruit, train, and empower volunteers.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to teach, facilitate discussions, and inspire others toward spiritual growth.
• A collaborative spirit, able to work effectively as part of a team and build relationships across various demographics within the church.
• A personal commitment to ongoing spiritual growth, humility, and integrity in ministry.
