Job Overview

  • Healthy Follower of Christ: Primary role is to passionately love God and love others (Mt. 22:35-40) while giving your life as worship to the Lord. (Rm. 12:1-2). The secondary role is to love, support and shepherd your own family. Third, to love the rest of the church family as you seek to serve them by laying down your life for the church family as Jesus has laid His life down for ours. Finally, live as a disciple of Christ as you make Christ known to those in our community who desperately need Him.
  • Co-Oversee LifeGroups and Discipleship Groups (DGroups):  In collaboration with Pastor Jacob Chacko, helping each person at MVCC be active in growing as disciples and helping others grow as disciples through being involved in community.  This includes overseeing, equipping, multiplying, and recruiting leaders for our small groups (called LifeGroups which break up into smaller same gender groups for accountability called DGroups).
  • Oversee the assimilation process (new visitor to active member):
    • Oversee MVCC Connect
    • Follow up strategy
    • Pathway for next steps of growth
    • Membership process
    • Meeting/Connecting with many people to help them get connected
  • Oversight of other leaders of ministries that are focused on making disciples:  Provide oversight and alignment with other ministry leaders that are focused on making disciples.  This includes Men’s and Women’s Ministry, Sunday Morning Team Leaders, etc. 
  • Broad exposure to and Pastoral shepherding of the church family:  Along with the other pastors, providing shepherding care for the body at MVCC.  This would include opportunities to preach/teach/lead:
    • Sunday mornings (planning, preaching, emcee, etc.)
    • Equipping forums (Equip Day classes, Gospel 101 class, etc.)
    • Shepherding situations

Job Description

The “Discipleship Pastor” will help champion, implement, and model the call that we have as followers of Christ to make disciples who make disciples. One of the most important environments for this to take place is through our LifeGroup ministry (small groups) so this role would help lead our LifeGroup ministry (invest, recruit, equip, and multiply). They will also be responsible to help design, execute, and lead people in the pathway of getting connected into the church family and growing to be an active church member.  The ideal candidate would have a pastoral heart who would use their gift of leadership to direct other leaders and volunteers to carry out the vision of the church to make disciples as they model this in their own lives. The candidate must be a strong leader, a good communicator in both large and small group settings, be welcoming to a new person, be able to cast vision, and be able to relationally connect with a diverse range of people and gifts. This role will require problem solving skills to come up with the best solutions for a growing church as we keep our eyes on Jesus.
