Discipleship Pastor

Discipleship Pastor Position

Redemption Church exists to redeem the church and the community with the Gospel by making disciples. Our strategy is to (1) invite others to show up consistently to hear the Word of God preached and worship with our family of believers, (2) to foster a culture of studying up in God's Word, (3) to grow up into the character of Jesus, and (4) pick others up in the faith by telling them about the Lord and showing God's love in tangible ways. As a family of believers we journey together with Jesus, and we are a compelling family the community cannot ignore.

Redemption Church has a history of God's grace. For over 6 decades we were Hyde Park Baptist Church. Then, Hibernia Baptist Church helped rejuvenate the church and for a few years we were Hibernia at Hyde Park. Then, about 10 years ago we were relaunched as Redemption Church. We have a high view of Christ and His Word, the importance of preaching, teaching, and following the Word of God, and we seek to be compassionate people in our community.

We are seeking a discipleship pastor. The man God calls will be biblically qualified as a pastor. He need not already be ordained, but that is preferred. Seminary education should either be completed or underway. A man of God who loves his family and wants to help others grow in the faith is a must. The ideal discipleship pastor will come ready to balance the roles of teaching & preaching, with shepherding & member care. He will help others grow up in the faith, and coach teachers. He will encourage us towards mission endeavors and evangelism. He will integrate happily with the staff and members of the church, coming under the leadership of the lead pastor and the vision of the church.

This is a part-time position (18-20 hours per week) with at least 4 hours in the office.

The salary will be $20,000 annually and may include benefits.

Job duties will include:

– Teach a Bible Study class on Sunday mornings (and training a co-teacher)

– Teach on Wednesday Nights (topical, and training co-teachers, alternating with lead pastor)

– Train other Bible study teachers

– Order Bible study materials

– Preach as needed (will depend on gifting, but likely 4-6 times per year)

– Train members of Redemption Church in evangelism

– Lead or facilitate mission trips stateside or internationally

– Help new members transition into Sunday morning Bible studies

– Foster discipling quads or trios

– Attend monthly staff meetings

– Work closely with the lead pastor

– Join and contribute to the Leadership Team of the church

– Carefully maintain budget and monitor spending of church money

– Regularly connect with members for prayer, encouragement, and discipleship

At Redemption Church, all paid staff members are bi-vocational. We do not have set office hours. The person who will best fit in this position will be able to work independently, but also with a team. He will enjoy working in an urban environment, sharing the gospel, training believers in how to walk with Christ, and being flexible. We encourage the person who gets this position to have another job or occupation both for finances and for outreach to the community.

Redemption Church is in an exciting area of ministry. We regularly interact with hundreds of people who are far from God. We see people saved and baptized. Sometimes our role, underneath God's sovereign hand, is to be part of their rescue. Sometimes, they stay and connect with our church for years. Sometimes, they quickly move on. Redemption is a rescue station in a lost part of Jacksonville, FL.
