Family & Student Minister

Job Overview

Reston Community Church is seeking a passionate and vision-oriented individual to develop and oversee the growing ministry to children, students, and their families at RCC and the surrounding community. This role will focus primarily on direct ministry to middle and high school aged students and their families, while also providing leadership and oversight for the Children's Ministry at RCC. The Family & Student Minister will champion a vision for equipping parents as the primary disciple-makers in their homes, fostering a culture of biblical discipleship within families across the church community.

This is a full time position with competitive salary and benefits.

Flexibility is required for evenings, weekends, and special events.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Family Discipleship & Equipping:
    • Develop and implement strategies to equip and and empower parents to make and mature disciples in their homes.
    • Provide resources, training, and workshops to support parents in leading their children spiritually.
    • Encourage intergenerational discipleship by fostering relationships between students, children, and the broader church family.
    • Support parents in navigating cultural and spiritual challenges as they raise their children to follow Christ.
  • Student Leadership:
    • Develop and lead a dynamic ministry for middle and high school students that fosters spiritual growth, biblical literacy, and missional living.
    • Create and implement engaging programming, events, and small groups that build authentic faith and meaningful relationship.
    • Teach biblical truth in a relevant and compelling way that challenges students to grow as disciples..
    • Recruit, train, and equip adult leaders and volunteers to disciple and mentor students.
    • Organize retreats, mission trips, and outreach opportunities to encourage students in their faith.
    • Work to build relational connections with the students at RCC and their peers outside of the church by going to where they are (sporting events, school events, etc.).
  • Children's Ministry Oversight:
    • Provide leadership and vision for the Children's Ministry (birth-5th grade) by offering direction and support to the Children's Ministry Director and ensuring alignment with the church's mission, vision, and values.
    • Assist in developing curriculum. training volunteers, and fostering an environment that nurtures young children in their faith.
  • Preaching & Teaching:
    • Work with the Lead Pastor to establish rhythms for preaching throughout that year that align with broader responsibilities of the role.
    • Share in the preaching ministry of RCC as needed by preparing and presenting sermons that align with the overall teaching ministry of the church and the church's theological and philosophical vision.
  • Administrative Leadership:
    • Using current church management software to create and manage an up to date youth roster and send regular communication and updates to parents and staff.
    • Oversee scheduling of volunteers in the Children's and Student Ministry.
    • Oversee and manage appropriate budget categories with integrity and wisdom.

    • Willingness to learn and ability to acknowledge weaknesses and ask for help.
  • Proven experience in youth ministry
    • Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute a successful youth program.
    • A heart for discipling students and a passion for seeing families thrive in their faith.
    • Strong leadership, relational, and communication skills.
    • Ability to recruit, train, and equip volunteers for effective ministry.
    • Commitment to working collaboratively with church leadership and staff.
  • Excellent Communication Skills
    • Ability to connect with youth, parents, and volunteers
    • Ability to inspire, motivate, and guide both volunteers and youth toward shared goals.
  • Experience in community engagement and outreach
    • Skills in organization and time management
    • Ability to coordinate events, programs, and various aspects of youth ministry efficiently.
    • Confidence in building connections with other youth leaders, churches, and organizations for collaborative efforts and shared resources.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Youth Ministry or related ministry degree
    • Previous ministry experience may be taken into consideration in lieu of formal education.
  • Mental Health Awareness
    • Understanding of youth mental health issues and a commitment to creating a supportive and safe environment for the emotional well-being of youth
    • Certification in Youth Mental Health First Aid is a bonus
