Job Overview
The Groups Pastor is the primary leader and equipper for small groups, classes, and discipleship among adults. As a Leader of leaders, he ensures that group coaches, leaders, and class leaders are aligned and equipped for maximum Kingdom impact. Working closely with staff pastors, ministry directors, and lay leaders, he helps people move along the path to living missionally within group and class structures.

Scope
The Groups Pastor is the primary leader and equipper for small groups, classes, and discipleship among adults. As a Leader of leaders, he ensures that group coaches, leaders, and class leaders are aligned and equipped for maximum Kingdom impact. Working closely with staff pastors, ministry directors, and lay leaders, he helps people move along the path to living missionally within group and class structures.
Education and Experience
- A proven commitment to evangelism and discipleship.
- Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience as a full-time staff member, preferably in a ministry leadership capacity of a church of 500+.
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in biblical studies or a related field is required. (Extensive ministry experience, in some cases, can be substituted).
- Proven strong leader with a solid work ethic with the ability to administrate as a department head.
- The ideal candidate will possess the character, competency, chemistry, and calling befitting the needs of Midway Church.
- A background, personality, and passion for recruiting and developing leaders and the ability to lead through a leadership team of paid and volunteer staff.
- A seasoned teacher comfortable in front of groups of all sizes.
Ministry
- Lead the team responsible for the development and growth of Midway's life group ministry that supports our vision. Recruit and develop leaders for current and future groups which include a mix of off-campus and on-campus groups, Sunday school classes, elective "equipping" classes, and seasonal Bible studies.
- Plan and implement regular team leader and small group participant recruitment methods and processes to ensure healthy small group growth. Effort includes development and implementation of group leader training, development, and recognition of great leadership.
- Develop and maintain an accurate, accessible database of small group leaders, participants, and prospects. Effort includes working with the communication team to ensure that small groups are geographically identified to help potential participants determine the best fit for them.
- Assist with the development of the annual departmental budget and manage spending to the approved budget.
- Function as a member of the Midway's pastoral staff performing baptism services, weddings, funerals, teaching, etc. or other pastoral duties as assigned.
- Responsible for promoting life groups and other small group ministry in planning and helping maintain focus on small group ministry.
Leadership
- The leader of this ministry shall focus on equipping and training leaders, researching new curriculum offerings and best practice policies for classes, groups, and discipleship.
- The Groups Pastor encourages leaders with regular contact, providing growth opportunities, and appropriate appreciation.
- The leader shall model steadfastness and maturity to their leaders.
- The leader shall continue to look for innovative and creative ways to reach the community and communicate with group leaders and members.
- Coordination and communication with pastoral leadership and Elders, staff, and volunteers is required.
Personal Development
- Midway expects its pastoral staff to attend to the spiritual health of his home, leading his family in love and grace which builds those relationships in a way that honors God. Pastoral staff are expected to connect with other Midway staff relationally, professionally, and collaboratively with personal accountability.
- Midway expects its pastoral staff to remain current with adult education and discipleship trends through appropriate media, approved conference attendance, and relationships with like-minded leaders in the same positions. Midway supports and encourages the professional and educational development of its pastoral staff.
- All pastoral staff are expected to remain committed to personal spiritual health and the development of a worship lifestyle.
- All staff must be able to handle criticism and unfair situations with humility and a desire to glorify God.
Midway Requirements
- Midway expects its pastors to have a testimony of salvation, love for service, and a call to ministry.
- Pastors are expected to become a member of Midway Church.
- As a follower of Christ, we are called to strive for excellence in life and ministry and this starts with personal spiritual growth, daily time in God's word, and a passion for local and global missions (a key focus of Midway Church).
- Midway expects pastoral staff to have impeccable loyalty to Midway Church and our essential doctrines.
- Midway adheres to 1 Timothy 3, which spells out the spiritual requirements of pastor/elder. This includes a history of exercising sound judgement and decision making, evangelism, discipleship and positive attitude and interpersonal skills with strong organizational abilities. As such, self-motivation is required.
- The ministry leader is expected to give financially to Midway Church through tithes, offerings, and mission giving.
