Good Neighbors Home Repair

Helping Hand (HH) – New Castle County

  • Job Title: Helping Hand
  • Work Environment: While an office is available, the expectation is that this person will be out in the community most of the time
  • Reporting Structure: Reports to Project Manager
  • Pay Range: $20-26/hour
  • Location: Wilmington and the rest of northern DE
  • Employment Type: Part-time, at least 10 hours per week, preferably more

Overview and purpose: The HH is a critical role on the client engagement front. He/she will function as a technical helper within the Healthy Homes team, who will also function as a relational leader providing care and other resources to the client while we are making the home safer from a mobility perspective.

Responsibilities:

  • Care for the homeowner on the initial visit, during the in-person relationship and through follow-up after the repair.
  • Assist the PM with completing repair tasks (for example install grab bars, install ramps and additional tasks once trained). All work should be performed in a professional and code compliant manner.
  • Establish on-going support for the homeowner through connections with a local church, community organization, and/or social service agencies.
  • Assist the PM in obtaining before and after pictures of the worksite.
  • Collect helpful information from the homeowner so that relevant details could be used in marketing materials, grants, and social media. 
  • Keep accurate records and statistics pertaining to care provided for reporting to funding authorities.
  • Coach and encourage on-site volunteers.
  • Treat the homeowner with respect as taught by the Golden Rule.
  • When available, the HH will facilitate a GN yard sign in the front of the home.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent. Preferably in the humanities.
  • A vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Membership and regular attendance at a local, Bible-believing church.
  • Excellent health – Able to safely climb ladders, navigate on a roof, and lift materials and tools.
  • Experience with home repairs and/or familiarity with other ministry related work

Job Requirements

  • Full-time or Part-time – a minimum of 40 hours per month
    • This position would need to be present for GN Youth Camp, DIY Youth Camps (both in the summer), Hands of Hope (Spring and Fall) and occasional Saturday projects.
  • Summary of Tasks
    • The HH will carry an application, brochure, and business card to facilitate an initial application which will be sent to GN main office.
    • Assist the PM in leaving the home safe and neat at the end of each day.
    • Follow safety procedures to ensure that the HH, PM and homeowner remain safe throughout the project.
