Job Overview
The Director of Journey Kids is responsible for the oversight and leadership of the Journey Kids ministry. The Director's aim is to cultivate the gospel in the next generation and engage families through age-appropriate, gospel-centered worship, while equipping and empowering parents as the primary spiritual influence in their children's spiritual development. This role will be responsible for recruiting and training volunteers and teachers to fulfill and lead the Journey Kids weekend service classrooms, overseeing appropriate curriculum selection and implementation, and developing strategies to grow the Journey Kids program.

- Ability to teach children about God and His ways in an age-appropriate fashion
- Ability to equip/counsel parents to train their children to be disciples of Jesus
- Ability to train and lead volunteer teachers and classroom assistants
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education, secondary education, Christian education or related field preferred
- 3-5+ years of experience in a leadership position within a children's ministry preferred
Primary Accountabilities:
The individual filling this position will be held accountable to the following goals and will be successful in this position if these goals are met:
- Creating a community on Sunday mornings that make it possible for children to encounter Jesus
- Utilize volunteers effectively so that all children have space in Journey Kids on Sunday morning
- Prepare lessons and supplies for Sunday so that volunteers are fully equipped
- Know, teach, and engage with children and their parents so that children and families feel known
- Engage the body of the church in the lives of the children
- Stay current on new teaching techniques and innovations
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Implement and maintain the overarching discipleship pathway for children; as well as a scope and sequence for the equipping of parents
- Align children's ministry with the principles and practices of the church's overall Discipleship Pathway
- Develop and implement ministry vision and goals for Journey Kids
- Plan and execute weekend Journey Kids classes, special events, and programs
- Evaluate and recommend creation of new classes and classrooms
- Create a team leadership structure to effectively lead specific areas of ministry
- Plan and execute family discipleship opportunities and events
- Recruit, train, lead, coordinate, and care for the Journey Kids teachers and volunteers
- Recruit, lead, and oversee volunteers and/or staff to assist with administrative tasks and scheduling
- Participate in classroom leading a minimum of once a month as a part of effective coaching
- Organize and lead training as needed for volunteers across Journey Kids
- Collaborate with the Spiritual Formation Team to ensure alignment of mission and vision, as well as overall preparedness of children transitioning from Journey Kids to Journey Youth.
- Provide care for Journey Kids leadership team to extend that to teachers and volunteers
- Communicate ministry needs with parents, the church, and leadership
- Work with Spiritual Formation Team to address any family crisis care needs
- Create, implement, enforce, and maintain safety protocols, processes, and guidelines for Journey Kids
- Develop, oversee, and manage the Journey Kids budget
- All other duties as assigned
