Chelsea Green Community Church is located in a low-income neighbourhood, serving a diverse community with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. While some in our community face economic challenges, our congregation includes people from all walks of life. We are looking for a Lead Pastor to shepherd our community. Someone who loves engaging with and supporting people from all walks of life with compassion, humility, and a heart for service.
About Us
General Description
CGCC is a vibrant, mission-driven church dedicated to sharing the love of Jesus Christ by fulfilling the Great Commandment in the spirit of the Great Commission. We focus on building a gospel-centred community that serves and ministers to the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of our church family and the wider Chelsea Green neighbourhood.
Our community values dignity, love, and respect for all individuals. The diverse and tightly knit church family includes people from various generations, economic and ethnic backgrounds, and life stages. The congregation comprises those seeking, those young in their faith who have not yet developed spiritual disciplines, and more mature Christians with a heart to love, disciple, and serve the church family. All are united by their love and support for each other and their faith in Christ.
A Community With Unique Opportunities for Ministry
CGCC is blessed to be called by God to serve in a neighbourhood facing challenges such as lower average incomes and where minor crime is common. The church deeply fosters a safe and supportive environment where all are welcomed, valued, and loved. Many members struggle with financial insecurity, have experienced trauma, and are navigating its impact, while others are dealing with a variety of personal struggles.
Our church family is not just a place to worship; it's a place of refuge, encouragement, and transformation for those seeking spiritual and emotional healing.
Our Mission and pillars
Our mission is to glorify God by magnifying His supremacy in all things. As a community of believers, we are continually transformed by the gospel of Jesus Christ and seek to impact our neighbours' lives with His love. We aim to make disciples who are devoted to three key aspects of obedience to Jesus, reflected in the pillars of CGCC:
Seek the Lost: "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost." Luke 19:10
We are committed to reaching the lost in Chelsea Green through evangelism, community events, and personal engagement. We live this out by:
- Desiring others to experience the love, grace, and mercy of Jesus Christ.
- Aiming to be active, visible participants in our neighbourhood, engaging where our neighbours live, work, and play.
Grow Together in Christ: "I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing." John 15:5
With the help of the Holy Spirit, we grow Christ-centred lives by:
- Worshiping God joyfully in all aspects of life
- Engaging regularly with the preaching and teaching of God's Word
- Growing in the grace and knowledge of God to mature in Christlikeness.
Build our Community: "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14
We aim to build a community of Christ-followers who reflect His light in a world darkened by sin.
- Growing in relationship with Jesus daily, following Him step by step
- Partnering with Him to share the truth of the Bible
- Advocating for the voiceless, praying for the broken, and investing in the lives of others as image-bearers of God.
Core Values
- Biblical Authority: We uphold the Bible as the inspired and infallible Word of God, guiding our beliefs and actions.
- Gospel-Centred Ministry: Our ministry is centred on the gospel of Jesus Christ, aiming to bring transformation to individuals and communities.
- Compassion and Service: We actively serve and care for the community, addressing their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs with love and care.
- Community: We value authentic community where individuals support, encourage, and challenge each other in their faith journey.
- Discipleship: We are committed to helping individuals grow in their relationship with Christ through study, fellowship, and service.
Outreach and Ministry
CGCC is committed to meeting the spiritual and physical needs of the community while at the same time introducing the love and gospel of Jesus. We engage in a wide array of outreach activities, including:
- Community BBQs: Bringing neighbours together to build relationships and offer support.
- FreeCycles: Serving families in need with a "garage sale" event where all items are free.
- Community Lunches: Free meals and fellowship for anyone in the community.
- Food Pantry: Providing essential food items to those facing food insecurity.
- Winter Coat Days: Offering winter coats and other clothing to those in need.
In addition, CGCC partners with local organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous and Safe Families, opening our church space to further their missions and provide support to vulnerable individuals.
Our commitment to outreach also includes practical support for church members through initiatives like our clothing closet, food ministry, Christmas hampers, and gift cards for those facing hardship.
Worship Services
Sunday services at CGCC are centred around expository preaching, Biblical authority, and gospel-centred worship that glorifies God. The service aims to nurture individuals at all stages of their journey with God. Children have a special segment where they come to the front for their lesson. They remain in the service to experience worship as a family. Fellowship is emphasized, with opportunities for coffee, snacks, and connection after the service to foster and strengthen community bonds.
