Media Specialist

The communications specialist ensures First Baptist Starkville produces high-quality printed and digital content on Sunday mornings and throughout the week. This content educates and inspires those who engage with our church online, pointing them to the hope found in Jesus, encouraging them to live sent, and driving them into deeper connection with First Baptist Starkville.

Job Description:The communications specialist is responsible for maintaining First Baptist Starkville's voice across social media channels and physical and digital communications materials. The specialists will regularly develop content and copy that encourages spiritual discipline, engagement, and service while creatively promoting the mission and vision of First Baptist Starkville.

  • Be available to church members and the community to answer questions about First Baptist Starkville's ministries, programs, and calendar of events.
  • Establish regular office hours available to ministry staff, maintain a professional and courteous attitude, and participate in weekly staff meetings as assigned.
  • Develop and mentor the communications volunteer team by enlisting, equipping, and encouraging qualified individuals to serve during our weekend worship services.

Experience & Knowledge Required:

  • Two or more years of experience in social media content creation
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Photoshop and Indesign
  • Experience with Canva.
  • Experience with MailChimp.
  • Experience on camera is a plus; be available to shoot regular content for Sunday morning services.
  • Knowledge of Squarespace and basic website design and implementation.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and curate engaging content for social media channels that highlights our ministries, encourages service and spiritual discipline, and drives physical engagement in weekend worship.
  • Engage with followers who ask questions or leave comments on our social media channels.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director and ministry staff to draft copy for digital and physical communication materials that support First Baptist's communication strategy, maintain a unified voice, and reach their intended audience.
  • Support the planning, writing, editing, and publishing of the First Word newsletter and any other long-form material produced at First Baptist Starkville.
  • Produce the weekly worship bulletin.
  • Produce and evaluate regular email campaigns and communications.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Director to maintain a content calendar that is both comprehensive and compatible with the scope of the Communications Department.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the church website by uploading articles and blogs and regularly auditing website content for clarity and accuracy.
