Minister of Music, Worship, and Administration
ABOUT THE POSITIONThis is complex professional work requiring a high degree of training, education, and experience in the field of Christian music ministry. In addition, this position requires administrative experience and proven ability to effectively manage the administrative operations of the church. Position supervises a staff of clerical and contracted trades personnel; and organizes, leads, teaches, and inspires various choirs and instrumental ensembles which contribute to the quality of the worship experience of the congregation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Plans, organizes, staffs, directs, coordinates, budgets, and reports concerning the music, worship, and administrative activities of the church subject to appropriate governing documents
- In cooperation with the Senior Pastor, plans worship services, funerals, and weddings, as appropriate, and selects and directs congregational, choir, and instrumental music
- Researches, selects, and purchases music, maintains music files, ensures that music is placed in and removed from folders
- Promotes participation in the music ministry of the church
- Conducts hospital and nursing home visits
- Ensures that heat, lights, water, and HVAC, security and sound/TV systems work properly
- Ensures competitive bidding as required in the church governing documents
- Coordinates with maintenance contractors and oversees building and grounds maintenance
- Writes newsletter articles, worship bulletins, and promotional materials
- Coordinates church operations with pre-school and after-school ministries
- Operates office equipment
- Coordinates with technicians to ensure maintenance of office equipment
- Does similar duties as may be requested by supervisor
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEAny combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in music performance and/or pedagogy and five years of increasingly responsible musical leadership in the local church. Demonstrated ability to provide administrative guidance and direction in a complex organizational setting.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESComprehensive knowledge of the content, demands, and responsibilities of Christian music ministry in a senior role in the local church. considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of administrative management in a local church; skill in supervision of lay leaders, support staff, and contract employees; ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with co-workers, choirs and ensembles, and the congregation; must evidence an exemplary Christian lifestyle.
